I might as well start a shop thread.

The new house we bought came with a nice little 26'x50' shop. The previous owner did a great job with the build out. It's fully insulated with it's own 200A service. He sheathed all the walls with 1/2" plywood. There's an AC/Heat unit in the corner and one lonely little ceiling fan in the middle of the shop. LED lights run down both sides of the shop.

There's 3 garage doors on the shop and one man door.

The shop was partially used as a party barn for the swimming pool. One of the garage doors his glass. There's also a filtered water and drain ran next to the glass door for a ice maker.

Right now, the shop is just filled up with all the stuff from the garage and storage shed from the last house. I'll be working on unboxing stuff in the house, but hope to make a little progress on the shop here and there.

A majority of what I do in my shop is wood related with a few electronics projects thrown in here and there.

So far all I have done in the shop is to setup a few temporary shelves that we brought over from the old house. The plan is to get the temporary shelves up so that I can fill them with stuff on the right half of the shop. Then I can setup the right half of the shop... move everything from the left to the right, and then setup the left half.

I'm still trying to figure out where I want to put everything. I haven't tried moving the two cabinets with all the drawers yet. I'm hoping they're easily moveable as I'd like to use them as the base for a work bench... possibly where my miter saw goes.

Here's a short video of the aerial display I get to wake up to at the new house. This is 1000 times nicer than the sounds of the city lot we moved away from.

Nice! Congrats.

That shop is a great canvas to expand upon and build out. Lots of guys on here inherit basket case shops with their house purchases. You got a good one!

The previous owner really did do a great job making decisions on this shop. There's multiple circuits throughout the shop. Opening the doors makes a great breeze through the middle.

Today I worked on getting the access point mounted from the ceiling and getting the switch mounted into a case to keep dust away from it.

By the end of the morning I had the TV working for some music.

I also spent some time getting shelves installed in the garage. f7911525048e00715b5f981d48f3b0d0.jpgfe695e4a13cb4f65796fcb9395636745.jpgdcf664341922e0eea8c55fdc43b7be17.jpg

Finished the weekend Sunday evening putting up a few more temporary shelves.

The goal at this point is to get enough stuff up off the floor that I can move some of the big tools around so that they're useable. We have some furniture from the old house that we plan on getting rid of that's taking up valuable space.

Once I have a working space, then I can start building out cabinets and work benches.

By the end of the week I want to have some wood storage on the wall and my scraps up off the ground.

Does anyone know how much weight 1/2" plywood can hold in way of shelves? The walls are sheathed in plywood, so I was thinking of just screwing some metal shelf brackets straight to them for wood storage to sit on. It looks like the plywood is screwed to 2x4 frames.

Nice space!!

I wouldn't worry about putting anything away. It looks like my shop after I've cleaned up.

Screw your brackets where the studs are behind but for heavy stuff better to build four legged shelves.

Made a little progress today. Finally have the compressor hooked up and cleaned up space to put a storage container for plywood. Also moved some cabinets around. That doesn't sound like much, but when you have to move 5 things to move one, it takes forever. The picture is of some storage that I'm going to convert to a workbench by raising them up and putting a bench top on them.

I think I'm done for the weekend.

Got the back half of the shop cleaned up enough to be useable. Then spent time building a hinged storage container for sheet stock. It's so nice not having to build large things in the driveway. 96112f506efb80256651928294bdad2a.jpg480c24d4907084b090714474d3cd67fe.jpgc41c052eb469b62f3484e40700d45917.jpgd0b22277bab8c673e471fcd5825c57ad.jpg0d73145a6f57acb5eabb1ed14672a475.jpg

Cleanup and setup of the shop is still going well.

I finished setting up the one workbench. I've emptied a few more boxes. I also managed to move a shelf over to the wall and fill it up with chemicals.

I got the 3d printer and CNC machine both up and running. The 3d printer is not in it's final resting place.

I was able to get rid of some of the furniture in the middle of the shop and my wife informed me that someone is coming to pick up the rest of the empty boxes this evening.

The kids were happy that I finally got their RC trucks running again. That lasted about two days and the daughter detonated the slipper clutch on her truck... I can't complain as I also managed to destroy the clutch on my nitro truck too :( . I ordered some replacement parts that should come in later this week.

The most recent thing I did was created some storage for scrap and for my clamps. I'm still building out the clamp side.

We did a "hackathon" at work last week. I built an Alexa controlled Air freshener using a glade air freshener and an esp32. I dressed it up with some wood I had laying around and put it into production in the laundry room by the cat box.

I also tried out the AC in the shop. It was 96 degrees outside and I set the AC at 85 for Sunday afternoon. Looks like it cost me about $2 to run the AC just for the one day.

I'm really enjoying having all the extra power in the shop. At the last house, I had to run an extension chord from the front porch in order to run both the table saw and the shop vac at the same time. I don't have that problem here.

Lastly, I was finally able to find my pencil sharpener and got it mounted on the bench. This thing is a beast. I originally bought it for my wife's school as her students kept braking her pencil sharpeners. The only issue with this one is the little piece that stops the pencil when it's sharp is missing, so it will let you chew an entire pencil in about 2 minutes if you're not being careful... kids aren't careful  My wife had to bring it back home as the students were going through pencils way too fast.

Here's some pictures of the progress.

I still need to get the dining room set over to the mother in law's house. Then I'll be able to start with the new cabinets on the wall where the TV is at.

I didn't spend a lot of time in the shop over the weekend.

It was just my son and I, and he hasn't developed a lot of interest in what I do out there just yet. I still managed to make a storage shelf for the drills and drivers that I have. I picked up two more on Friday on a good discount. Having 4 of them is what drove me to build the storage unit.

My son helped with the spray paint portion. He's only 6, so I don't let him around the table saw much just yet. The table saw doesn't have a blade guard, and his brain still has him do things that he shouldn't from time to time... most recently, he decided to stick a small flat wrench into the two prongs on a NiCD battery for the daughter's RC truck. He suddenly threw the wrench on the ground and complained that it was getting hot. We got to have a little discussion about electricity. Luckily he didn't do it long enough to kill the battery and it was a discharged one and not a fresh pack.

Finally have a bigger work bench. It will double as an out feed table for the tablesaw. I plan on adding racks for the parts bins and some other storage on the bottom shelf.

Next project up will be moving a bunch of stuff around to make room for a miter saw station on the right wall. c79f0392ec8cc39e40b69f525be87a89.jpg

Got a dust collector as an early birthday present.

I plan on modifying it with a dust deputy.

I also finally got more of the big tools arranged in a way they're more useable. I still only have access to half of the workshop, so we'll see how this works for now.

Next step is to run ducting to the rest of the shop tools.

This is the first time in my entire life I've had access to all my shop tools plugged in and useable at the same time. 118e2eccc8e14889eb07dc559e6bb9cd.jpg56c14f60daa320654cc6e1ce5c92c016.jpg
