I have a few shop lights (like a Snap-On magnetic or Cyclops puck) that I charge in the shop with either micro USB or USB-C. They are rated at 5v=1A. I bought a new TV for the house that needs the remote to be charged with USB-C but did not come with a charger. My wife picked up a double charger that is rated for 5v=2.4A. Can I use that new charger for either the TV or shop lights? The new charger is a double and it would be even better in the shop

The first >1A chargers came from Apple. They used a "trick" to kick them into "high current" mode. If the charger did not sense the trick, it would stay at 1A. I'm. It sure this got into the approved standard, but I would use it anyway.

Some modern chargers can do 20V @ 5A, the "load" has to "talk" to the charger and they "negotiate" voltage and current. Clearly "dumb" devices don't talk so they get the default.
