Charging Station

If your like me, part mechanical, part electronic geek, then you've got a lot of cordless tools and cell phone, tablets, etc.


I'm looking for idea's for a charging station, either portable or stationary. I'm also thinking about a way to embed a USB strip of some sort into the workbench top. Any ideas? anybody have an active charge station/port?

I am not exactly sure what you want to do. All of the battery powered things I have came with their own charger. Some are 12 volt, some are 14 volt, some are 18 volt, etc. Everything I have has a different type of plug-in for charging with the exception of the USB stuff so that puts a damper on a "one charger does all". I have no idea how you would set up a "charging station" unless you just have something like a table with all the different chargers sitting on it. But that is what you probably have now, so that isn't what you want. Which brings me back to my first comment, I am not exactly sure what you want to do.

What I'm looking to do is all the chargers mounted to some kind of platform, readily accessible, but not in the way. Some kind of cord management would be involved also. I guess what I'm looking for are design idea's. If anybody has something like this post your pictures, please.

You could install a powerstrip under the work bench, then have just the wire plug or charger block on the workbench top. Only problem with that option is those chargers use power even when nothing is charging.

There have been a number of posts here on GJ with pictures of small shelves or drawers that contain all the owners chargers. The best ones I think use a switched power strip so all the chargers can be turned on and off with one switch. A shelf saves bench space.

I have a large power strip plugged into a 24 hour timer. When there are batteries to charge I set the timer and turn it on. Right now it runs for 6 1/2 hours and turns off by itself. Works very well and I haven't cooked a battery in 7 years.
