Hello,

I am new to this forum and would like to ask about a vice I recently inherited. It is marked Chas. Parker Co, Meridan Co. USA on one side. One the other it is marked Pat 1930, No, 435.

When the vice is opened the number "27" is visible. Can anyone give me any information on this neat old vice?

Thanks

All of the Charles Parker vises would fall into the "funky, old, cool, made in the USA, and highly desirable" catagory.

My first move would be to replace (what appears to be) some cheapy hardware store grade? bubble-gum mounting bolts with something more in character for the old warrior. When faced with same task over the weekend, I went with A325 grade 5/8" Bolts with Heavy Nuts. Grade 8 washers under the table and stainless on top...just cause that's how my vise rolls baby.

You might post this on the "tool" subforum. You'd be amazed how much those guys are into old vises just like yours.

Phil

Those vises are extremely dangerous for reasons I cannot divulge here.

Save yourself and your family and send it to me immediately so I can dispose of it safely.

That Parker has value and for one of many reasons is, its a functional piece of art. It could be pre war and if used properly someone else might be inheriting in 50 years or more. Very nice! Someone might have been trying out number stamps when those were put into it. Just a guess
