You normally don’t paint the slide on these kinds of vises. You just lubricate it. But there may be a compelling reason to paint it sometimes. I did this once because one of the previous owners had used the slide as an anvil and had deformed it enough that after bead blasting I knew if I didn’t paint it eventually it would start rusting again. And I wouldn’t be able to remove the rust once it started using any method other than bead blasting. I painted it silver and it came out looking quite good.

Nice Job on the restoration. I have the same model with a swivel base. It was handed down to me over 35 years ago.
Mine is overdue to be restored but works fine. No clue as to date of manufacture.
