I just picked up a Charles Parker #59XP Vise (4.75 inch jaws and 90 pounds, fixed base)
The previous owner welded the front replaceable jaw in place.
I have two questions…. What does the “XP” in the model number mean? And what should I do about the weld? Leave it alone or grind it off.

Id leave it alone and from the looks of the weld it may have been done with a nickle rod which is proper I believe and the weld doesn't look all bubbly and porous. Just be careful not to pound on the vise and it should hold just fine.

I should add that the jaw is/was not cracked. The jaw face would not remain in place for whatever reason.
