With great inspiration from gregthor's 974 1/4 restoration thread, advice from Catalyze and Outlaw as well as Spongerich's thorough electrolysis thread, I set out to strip, clean, prime, paint, lube and detail a Chas Parker 974 1/2.
The electrolysis peeled the paint off such that a little wire brush encouragement finalized the paint removal. Grease gunk required more wire brush scrubbing with grease removal stuff. I've sandblasted a Wilton and after this electrolysis experience, I will NOT sandblast again.
Primed with Rustoleum Self Etching Primer and painted with Hammered Verde Green. Then painted the letters with a very fine brush using satin black.
Following gregthor's lead, lubed exclusively with Permatex Anti-Seize.
As you can see, the collar is not original. My plan is to do a bronze cast of the collar from a Chas Parker 272 original and adapt it to retrofit it (not the same collar design). We'll see how well that goes.
The jaws are offsett side-to-side just a bit. Don't know how that happened as pinning the jaws is quite rigid.
Fun learning experience. If you know anybody in the SF Bay Area who would enjoy owning this, send a PM. I have to sell one in order to buy another.
