Chas Parker 974 1/2

Helping my son set up a shop for his small farm. He has a 974 1/2 Chas Parker vise. Everything is working on it, and almost no wear. It is missing a part. Not sure what its called but its the collar or stirrup that holds the screw from backing out.

Any idea where we might get one or do I need to make this part?

Also approximate age?

I have heard of some guys cutting and grinding a big washer to fit there on the front.

Sloppy and inelegant but very cheap!

of course, I can’t remember who.

I haven't uncovered the significance of the "A" in the model number 974 1/2A. 97 series I understand, as well as the 4 1/2" jaw width, but can anyone enlighten me about the "A"?

I recently acquired a 974 1/2 A. From my limited research, the A series seems to have a teardrop shape to the back side of the static base, providing a third mounting point if you wanted to mount sans swivel base. At least, that is my theory at this point. The center hole in my static, where the swivel base bolt would thread in, has no threads in it. Yours???
