I have a Chas Parker 995 vise. It is rusty and hard to read the names and numbers on the side. The crank handle is also rusted, but with a little jiggling, it does move from end to end through the crank. The vise does open and close all the way but it does tend to be a little hard to crank in a few spots. I would like to know if this vise is worth more in the condition it is in or would it be worth more if I cleaned most of the rust off of it. I have seen these sell on Ebay for up to $500 and maybe over. Any idea what this may be worth in the rusty condition and in the clean condition. I don't want to do anything to it until I find out which condition is worth more money. I no longer need this vise and I am looking to sell it.

The jaws for these are quite expensive ($200+), that's what I found with my 955. So that needs to be taken into account in the estimate also. Perfect restoration pays more, but is harder to sell I think.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay at the time. Time of month or year, location etc., all make a difference. If you're planning on selling it, not doing anything and selling as is would be best, IMHO. You limit your audience the moment you start farting around with it, and a badly done clean-up can literally kill any value. Opinions always vary on this subject, but I personally would recommend you do nothing to it before sale. I know that I myself will rarely buy any piece which has been messed about with in regard to selling it, (if I see the words 'lovingly restored' in a description too, that makes it even worse, as I can guarantee a pound to a penny that it won't be anything like restored, nor will it have received any worthwhile degree of attention whatsoever), unless there's some special reason for doing so.

It's TOO rusty to be worth anything.

If you're in KS or OK . . . I'll drive over Sunday and pick it up from 'ya !!! :D

Can't tell from the photo, but has the moveable jaw been welded where it turns into the slide?

If not, I'd use a hand wire brush to knock off the bigger rust flakes and advertise it as a survivor.

I know this vise is worth something no matter how rusty it is. It works very well no matter how it looks and I would never just give it away. It is worth more as scrap then giving it away for free.

I think that vise was made for auto repair work . The model name was 'Big Bear' or something . Yours was made from the late 30's to mid 50's.
Around here it would go for anywhere from 50 bucks at a flea market to 200 or more dollars at an auction.

By the looks of it it,s pretty rough ,the left side of the dynamic jaw seems damaged. And you say the screw works but hard in spots. 2.00 dollars in scrap, or 30.00 from me.

If you just want to get the most money out of it, put it on ebay. That way you can advertise worldwide.
