Yikes! That will likely take lots of time, money and effort to get it working again. KMScott makes replacement jaw but the fact that this one has been beat on without a jaw will make fitment of a new one a PITA...

How much time and money do you have on your hands? $100 is a great price for a 6" swivel base parker but the jaw issue would scare me.

I am working on a Parker 954 right now. The jaws came off real easy. they are held on with 2 pins per jaw. Just drive the pins out and some tapping on the jaw with a brass hammer takes them right off. They slide on from the front or either side.

I thought, before getting the vise, that there was a dovetail like mount. This was not the case. If there are any dents or high spots on the mounting surface, simply file the high spot down. Should then be able to install the jaws.

If the mounting surface is really bad from someone hammering on it, then that would be a different story.

What do you guys think of this chas parker?

I asked if they had the missing jaw and they said the jaw was not missing just a piece of metal. Supposedly been using it without the jaw.

Will that make replacement jaws even harder to fit than they are for the parkers?

WELCOME to the forum, i would kind of wonder what the rectangular looks like under the rags thats a good price if it had both the jaw pads a 976 is 6inch wide jaws 130+ lbs , KM Scott a member here makes jaws for parkers but i do remember him say there is a lot of work into them because of the curve form in them

The Parkers don't have plug-n-play jaws like other replaceables. KMScott has made a few (he's a master), and has reported that every one needed to be custom fit.

It won't be cheap. You would need to ship the vise to him. And as has been said, if the vise was used without the jaw, then it will make fitting a new one even more difficult. It might be easier to find a donor dynamic jaw that it will be to fit a replacement insert.

Selling the vise for the owner while the owner is away ? ------- Here Be Dragons.

I Agree with you, a 976 is a nice vise but he could end up with some extra benjamin's in it

I can't understand pictures people use to sell items on CL. Would it have been that hard to remove the rags and cord?

To the OP, if it isn't too far to drive, you need to check it in person. If there are no cracks on the slide or other areas, if it doesn't look like it has taken a beating, it would be a great deal for a 976 despite the missing jaw. 6" and larger are becoming increasingly rare in decent condition.

selling for my dad he no longer needs it he is away and needs it gone.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON!

This smacks of a stoner selling something not his.

If you do decide to go look, look for the jaw. the stoner doesn't' know the difference between a jaw and "a hunk of metal"

The vise is about 1.5 hours away. I can get the vise for around $75 maybe less but the jaws would about $275 from benchvicejaws.com.

The bigger issue is time I need a vise in a week or two not a month or two.

Not sure what I am going to do yet. Thanks for all the help!!

There might be a good chance that I have a extra used 956 (6") jaw since I made a new set for my vise. I would donate it to your cause. maybe with a file, stones, that metal stuff in a tube and power tools you could fit this one in a afternoon. It would be worth the drive if everything works out. PM me with your address if you pick up this vise.

Going to look at the vise tonight. The lady that has it is in her 80's had an accident and cracked her ribs. Been waiting for her to feel good enough to go look at it.

If you pay $100 for damaged Parker vise . . . . then convince Seller to "Sweeten The Pot" . . . . . what else can they throw in??

Might be a baby Bullet Wilton covered in grease and paint that could come along with the Parker !! ;)

I picked it up for $75. No luck on finding the jaw. Seems to be in good shape other than that. I don't how much play ther should be on the various parts but there is some.

Sorry but I sold my machine shop. Look for Toolmakers, Mold and Die makers, they are well qualified to help you.
