FIL gave me a vise a long time ago and it sat in my garage for years. When I moved to my farm I finally mounted it on one of my workbenches, yet I don't really know anything about it.

It is marked Chas. Parker Co. Meridan, CT USA on one side and #106 on the other side. It is VERY stout and weighs probably 75-85lbs. It looks a lot like the vise in the 1st post of the "vise need to know" thread, but bigger.

Anyone know about it and maybe its age? I can get a pic up later on if needed.

Without a photo, its hard. It could be a 6" stationary without seeing it. Probably Pre WWII

And autopts beats me to a "what vise is it" post.....sigh....
It sure sounds like when Charles Parker decided to start cleaning up their numbering system from the old comparable 79X size. My guess would be after 1926 and before 1939 when they had different numbering series completely like 856 for a stationary 6" vise.
Post photos when you get a chance.

That is a wonderful old vise! I am really curious as to the weight of that vise. Most folks want to know the jaw size...but I think the 106 guarantees it 6". If that is marked as a 108 then you will have the 8" jaws. The reason that I am wondering about the weight is that the catalogs that I have don't list the weights of the 10X series (as in 104 etc)
Here is what I have:
806 6" jaw 159 pounds
808 8" jaw 297 pounds
956 6" jaw 132 pounds
958 8" jaw 245 pounds
These are all stationary vises like yours. I think yours is a predecessor since it still has the round ball handle nose and the above are the later cylinders. You listed your weight as 75-85 pounds as a guess. As you can see, the later models were quite massive. All the suppositions make old vises fun. Thanks for the photos!

This is a 5 year old zombie thread, but correct information never hurts.

Unfortunately, you would be wrong. ;) On newer vises that rule is usually correct, but not for the older models. A 106 actually has 5" jaws.
