I recently bought a Chas Parker Vise.
It has an unusual ( to me) feature in that it both swivels and rotates.
Is this a common thing , and just new to me, or is it an uncommon vise?

What number is on it? This is the only double swivel Parker I know of.

Thats it!

Instead of 474A, though mine is stamped No 474. On the other side it has patented 1930.

Have you got any info on these , dissassenbly, parts, etc?

The 474A was make by Union Tool Co. They bought out Parkers Name and equipment. Union Parkers usually have a letter after it. Thoses 474's are rare but not worth much more then a nice Parker 4".

Hey Autopts and Gravyfries, thanks for the info, and the link thats a great help. I liked the vise because it was unusual, wasn't exactly what i was looking for, but at $35 how could i say no. rare or not i'm happy with the purchase. Again thanks.

Are we thinking of a possible "You ****" here?
I am feeling a very low pressure area forming....it all depends on pictures. We need evidence of the crime.

Here's the pic, I hope. I wire brushed and greased a few moving parts, so far ,works great.
It looks like the paint was some sort of grey or silver color, does anyone know if that would be an original Parker color?

Beautiful johno! So is the vise.....LOL
You might as well tell us about the car too. We will bug you until you do. Meanwhile, that is a great buy. You have a very usuable and uncommon Parker. I have a Parker 974 that is in a silver(ish) color and it doesn't show repaint layers. If you decide to do a clean up and paint, it will be a very dramatic looking vise. 2 slices of vise pie for you!

Nice buy on the vise. Yes, you do most certainly ****!

And the car....is that a Studebaker? Maybe a Hawk or a President? About 1953-56, maybe?

Nice, either way. Congrats!

Thanks for the compliments on the vise. I couldn't believe the price when i asked the guy at the swap meet, just got lucky.

The car is a 53 Studebaker coupe, got a custom front clip with MII susp. and steering, 350 SBC, with dart alum. heads, cam, intake, holley, the usual.

Frame has been further modified with about 30 feet of custom tube X members, bracing, and driveshaft loops.

Last week installed a T56 six speed manual trans, and a custom 9" ford posi with 4:11 gears.

It is coming along nicely.

I think the 53 and 54 Studebakers are amongest the best looking American cars made in that era, course i may be biased.:lol_hitti
