Just picked up this huge vise yesterday and know nothing more about it except that it probably is from 1910-1920 and weighs over 150 lbs. Nothing broke or cracked except a piece out of the head screw ? If that is the correct name for it. If anybody has an idea what it would be worth I’d appreciate any response !!!!! Thanx !!!!888EFF38-BE6A-46CE-96B0-EFD377847768.jpeg

I disagree on your pricing. Even with the damage, that is a rare vise and none of the damage appears to be irreparable. This is a vise rich area and that vise would likely fetch $300-$500 here.

Of course vise pricing is not a science and geographic area plays a big part, especially with big vises that cannot be easily or cheaply shipped.

Where is here?

Did you look at those jaws? I think the ledge is completely gone on both sides. I could be wrong.

Op that is a rare and highly desirable vise whether for parts or whole.

Of the highly skilled craftsman here I'm surprised to see the estimates that low. I could maybe fix that area on the main screw and yes the jaws are pretty worn. I'd expect to still see that priced at $3-400 in my area. I think it would actually sell for around the $200 mark. There are a ton of big vises on the Seattle CL that the seller is trying to retire on.

I could see someone going $200 just to use it as is, as a huge vise. If they need something like that. Or if you're near a college maybe an engineering instructor would want it as a project. I've had them come look at Blacksmith anvils.

But those jaws are more than worn. They're destroyed. And it looks like they've had repair jobs done in the past so who knows what horrors are underneath that. What a shame.

Thanx for your replies everyone. I’ve got a guy about 10-15 miles from me who is completely obsessed with vises. He buys, sells, and refurbishes them. He said he could repair the damage on the main screw for me or he would give me 125.00 for it. Seeing I only paid 75.00 I think I’ll let it go, instead of sitting on it, and trying to find a buyer who knows when. I told him I need to see it after he’s done with it.
