Cheap 1/2 swivels

I have been looking for a serviceable affordable set to use the only dilemma is the fact that i have a mg725 at work that kicks ***. I don't want to go too cheap on them, but they also don't get used to often as I'm just an automotive tech dabbling in 6.6L diesels.

These look just like the matcos but I am nervous to purchase them then have em snap the second i use em. let me know what ya think

Harbor freight. 3/8 ones are usually on sale. Cheap enough to not worr about breaking them

I have snap on, matco, and grey pneumatic.... Id say the grey pneumatic are the way to go for the price.

Sunex or Ingersoll Rand will do you well.

Both are CR-MO, unlike the set originally linked that is CR-V (same as the Harbor Freight).

I picked up a set of used Matcos on Ebay for around $75, never really used them because of the size; 3/8 was much more useful.

For me I have had no luck with cheap swivels, just about every one have snapped the pins or just shattered completely sending pieces in all directions. Are you looking for impact use?

Ive had good luck with a few Matco ones I have and have put them to the test with big impacts as well. Last week I was trying to take off a 18 mm bolt in an exhaust flange and all my 1/2' impacts (tried 2 different 1/2" Matco composite, 1/2" IR thundergun, SO 1/2") wouldn't budge it because of the long extensions I had as well as the 1/2" matco swivel. I tried heating the bolts over and over and applied bolt knocker loose but nothing worked, so I ended up getting out my 1 1/4" drive IR anvil impact (1700 ft lbs) and got under the truck trying to hold up this huge impact with extensions and the swivel to ballance and guide up to the bolt. I eventually got situated and even at a pretty severe angle, pulled that trigger a couple of "blapps" and snapped off every single bolt. The 1/2 Matco swivel help up fine under all the torque.

Although my problem just got more complicated (had to remove manifolds) I did get the exhaust off and out of the way So I am deff a believer in going with good tools when it comes to stuff like swivels that need to handle allot of torque.

Sunex is the way to go.

I use the sunex 1/2 set, and my snappy 3/8 set at work every day.
While the sunex aren't on the same level, they'll do you good.
Another option is GearWrench.
Just my pennies.

I am curious to know if sunex and GP come from the sameplace? I have a few sunex swivel adapters and they look the same as gp even the "s" and "GP" labels on them look similar

I just bought an HF set, used them a couple times but I rarely use a swivel, really only as a problem solver.

Are you sure a full set is needed? May work best to buy only the sizes needed, spend a little more money; and get better quality..
