Cheap Alternative To Hanson Socket Tray

Just wanted to share my experiences with toolbox organization. Having used the cheap metal socket rails for years (and hating them with a burning passion), I went hunting for an organizer that would let me see the size of the socket at a glance without having to look at the socket itself.

I quickly found the Hansen socket trays and really wanted them...but those things are mighty pricey for a poor young guy like me who has student loans to pay for and a lot of sockets to store.

I didn't find anything good and affordable online anywhere, and eventually gave up. Then I lucked into this find while walking through a rural king one day.

These things are great, and cheap. They're the same thing you can get at HF for similar money I believe, but they are color coded for SAE/Metric which I think is a nice feature.

I have the set Northern Tool has (same holder) and it was 3 black trays for metric (1/4, 3/8 and 1/2) and 3 red trays for standard (1/4, 3/8 and 1/2). Was $14.99 for the set. I like that they have the sizes where you can read them easily, but the metric vs standard trays were different sizes even by same drive size. So I just changed up to the Kobalt organizer item # 338551. Love them so far

Well I was you and have the lower end stuff. Now I wanted to splurge and got the Hansen set in sae and metric. Honestly to numbers are st an angle I have to bend over to see them well. The hf ones numbers are way better. I had other issues with the Hansen that I posted already. One additional thing is my 3/8 sockets don't fit over the pegs. So the grass is not always greener. Their wrench holders are nice though.
