i know they dont belong in the same sentence but am currently looking for a new box of gloves to try out.

my favorite so far is SAS Safety Ravens for my heavy duty usage and its fairly cheap on amazon 13-14 dollars a box (price goes up and down time to time)

my 2nd favorite is Dynarex Black Nitrile Exam gloves black for my light duty usage and its super cheap 8-9 bucks on amazon.

prefer to be black nitrile gloves

ive used microflex midnight in the past but i couldnt find anyone who sells its pretty cheap ( over 16 bucks a box)

being a mechanic and having to buy my own gloves it really does hurt the bottom line but i prefer to use gloves when i can. (not going fight over the boss why he should pay for it) he pays me very well at this point in time so i rather not shake the boat. but savings do help a lot when i can find deals

What about them flex mechanic's gloves they sell for 9.00 or so, anything to them? I have never worn gloves when working on trucks, cars and hot rods ect. I like to see with my hands/fingers and can't with shoes on my hands. Maybe they didn't have them back then? Would be nice to have something on the real cold nights and days back then and now, or am I getting soft in my young age?

I haven't bought any of the new black nitrile gloves from HF, but I doubt I will unless there is a super coupon for them for $4.

I buy the Dynarex from Amazon for $9/box of 100.

Harbor Freight sells a box of 50 for $8-9.

The blue ones at HF have improved in the last year or so, IMO. I know they used to be very hit or miss, even in the same box as far as tearing but the last box I have been in seems better.

I tend to use them, granted I'm not a professional at all.

for lightweight stuff (oil changes etc) i just use the cheapies from costco or HF.

for more serious stuff (tire rotations, suspension work etc) I use some of the Mechanix gloves from autozone etc. they're a decent set of 'work' gloves that aren't the big bulky heavy duty leather palm ones that wind up super stiff if you let them sit for a day.

I have packed many bearings, wad of grease in one palm then use other hand with bearing cuping grease into bearings. Took a bit of cleaning for your hands. Later bought a Lisle bearing packer, didn't like the results so went back to bear hands. Do you guys pack bearings w/your hands? Wearing gloves I would guess making light work of clean up.

I've done both, but agree you get a better result by hand. Learned this trick on my first pit crew while still in HS.

Cheap and good works fine for me, I keep a box of each kind handy. Cheap is HF or swap meet and I have latex for super cheap and the nitrile depends on where I last found them cheap. My current box of Nitrile gloves are from a swap meet guy and while cheap to me they are a premium hospital grade glove. Given a choice I prefer MicroFlex.

My most used gloves are decent grade rough leather black with grease and oil over the years. These resist all kinds of stuff that damages me, from sharp edges to spiders. Unfortunately worthless for even picking up a dropped bolt, but dandy for anything really dirty and or heavy.

What I like about wearing gloves is that I can move quickly from a very dirty task to something clean, gloves wipe or wash much easier than my skin. Gloves also make handling some things much more practical, like hot things, or fuel. I messed with gas yesterday, pumping old gas out of a couple cars, didn't wear gloves, didn't intentionally get any gas on me, but today my hands are still red from contact or fumes I couldn't avoid.

If I need to wash a lot of parts, nothing beats a cheap pair of dish washing gloves, vinyl and flock lined.

how are the dash gloves? u use the black nitrile ?

Best gloves I have ever used. Yes I use the black nitrile ones. My friends and I were passing by a tattoo studio about 8 years ago. We looked at each other and said, " let's do it"! Well, long story short we all got tattoos. While I was watching I noticed a weird looking box in the corner. I inquired about it, and was introduced to the dash medical black mamba series glove. I work with all types of thinners from mineral spirits to toluene. It is the only glove that will not melt and I have even soaked them in MEK just to see.
They hold up well, and I get the ones that have the extra grip in the fingers. I have also used the full Monties, those are the ones with the extra cuffs.

3 extra things that are cool about dash medical.

If you guys have a Costco Business center, they have an entire isle of gloves. But there's only about 10 of these centers nationwide.

I use xlarge. I know they come in all sizes from sm to *** and if you are like SHAQ handed they can do a custom fit job. But for 7.90 it beats hf and any other type glove I have ever used. My wife uses the Pink Spankies for her gardening when she does fertilizer stuff. They are kinda cool looking and I did try a pair on, but busted them as she is a sm size. They have white, blue, pink, purple, yellow, black, green, and gold gloves.

When you guys are pricing gloves, make sure you check the quanity. I have seen boxes of 50 to 100 up to 250. The latter is what I have and they fit bigger than others that I have used.

I bought a box of the Large 7mil blue nitrile gloves from HF today and they just seem to strangle my hands. Not much give to them. They get uncomfortable after a little while and I can barely peel them off. I tried stretching some out before putting them on, but it barely helped. I tried on one of the XL ones that was hanging halfway out of the box in the store and it seemed too loose for working in. Is there any brand that I can wear somewhat snugly but that will stretch a bit more with my movements?

This is the trouble that I run into.

A glove that is big enough to fit around my palms will be hanging off my fingers.

The XL 9 mil gloves from HF fit good enough for me, but are from from perfect.

The best fitting I've found are the nitrile dipped fabric Mechanix gloves, but they're no good for hot weather or chemicals.

I too am a fan of the Harbor Freight - 9Mil (the heaviest they carry) with coupon they are a good deal and hold up fairly well.

Keep in mind that your hands do swell with the weather or when you are doing lot of work. Each brand is sized different also, a large in one brand might fit you but another brand is too small.

Often during the Summer, I need an XL glove for EMS work and during the Winter, I might be able to get by with a large. More than likely, I tend to always grab a pair of XLs to be safe whether it's from our stock, private EMS stock or when doing work in the ER.

I used to buy some really good gloves from Fastenal for about 26 a box, found them on Amazon but were still about 20 bucks a box. I tried the new thick black ones from HF, and for half the price with a coupon they are just as good as the 20 bucks a box ones.

Holy thread resurrect batman!

I use uniseal high risk. They are blue, but the most durable I have found to date. 15 mil thick

By the way, heat breaks down gloves, so store them in climate control if possible.

I exclusively use the Harbor Freight nitrile gloves. I buy the 9 mil (the black ones) and the 5 mil (the lighter blue ones).

No complaints at all, especially on the 9 mil gloves as they are super tough.

~$6 per box with a 20% coupon

I have these dark blue nitrile gloves. Really tough. But I can't for the life of me remember where I got them or what brand they are. Box is long gone, and I'm now down to my last couple of pairs.

I usually keep either the thickest nitriles from Harbor Freight or the Venom ones from Wal-Mart in my shop. Both work well in my experience and I just pick up whichever is more convenient at the time I need them, which is usually the Venoms.
