I was at HD the other day and picked up a Husky plastic toolbox my saw- a MS192t with a 12" bar fits perfectly in the 22" box. They also have a 26" that would fit a little larger saw. So for a total of $15 I have a case with room for my saw along with gas and bar oil that is easy to throw in my truck without making a mess. It also has the benifit of disguising the saw so it is less likely to get stolen.

However,Bouncing around in the back of a truck on a hot summers day is not a good idea for a chainsaw.Especially in a black container. The heat inside the container will spoil the octane in the gas and you will have a saw that refuses to start.Try this trick. Toss a can of soda in the bed of your truck and let it ride around for a few days.Compile this with the heat of the sun.Now a few days later how will the beverage taste? Not only that but the saws gas vent will surly relieve the pressure and possible hazards could exist.

I used the $5 version of that box they have at the holidays as a case for a belt sander.

That is a great idea. My electric saw drips oil and I have to be careful where I put it. I am off to find a suitable tool box.

I have a aluminum toolbox in the back of my truck that I put this box inside so it will not bounce aroud too much and will be semi protected from the sun. I also use have swiched to Stihl motomix for this saw so it will not go bad, It has a 2 year life in a saw and a 5 year life in the can
Lelandwelds- I dont climb trees I work at a small engine shop so I assembled this saw from the junk pile so I could have a small portable saw.

So how to do you recommend transporting them?

I've always left a saw in the tool box of both my trucks. Whether its the underbody box of my mason dump or the cross over box in the back of my pickup, one saw is in each vehicle at all times. Done this for years all year long and never had an issue. Any time I see fresh wood on the side of the road I pull over, grab the saw and go to work. Gotta heat the house this winter...

In the back of the truck is fine. However unless the bed has a cap to protect the saw from the sun, I would cover the saw with some sort of covering.Anything to keep the heat and the sun from shining and heating the saw.You protect the saw from the rain, why not the sun.Would you be able to stand being out in the sun without a shirt on for any length of time? Now if you want to pay a visit to your friendly Stihl dealer, well that is up to you.

How often are they used? What I am attempting to say is that gasoline heated and cooled, bouncing around in a truck bed is not hard on the saw but the mix in the saw. If you run the implement and add fresh mix every once in a while you should not have a problem. Mix will go bad if not used for any length of time, especially with the ethanol in it.The sun heating simply accelerates the process.
