my research show many new coffee makers not able to get water really hot.
my goal...
to avoid someone recommending microwaving or pre heating the fresh coffee after you just make it.

Immersion heater like this. We use them as a water cooled snubber resistor but more that one has shown up on a desk stuck in a coffe cup. Put a plug on it and quickly watch your water boil.

I always pre-heat the mug with hot water.
If You pour hot coffee in a cold mug, well......

I think the point of higher temp water was for the proper brewing of the coffee, typically around 190 degrees. Heating the mug does nothing to help once the water has passed over the beans.

I'm not sure how hot you want it. My bodum (french press) brews for 3 min from boiling water and it will burn your mouth no problem.

I think the problem you're going to run into is that the ideal temperature for making coffee is supposed to be slightly below boiling (like exmaxima1 says). So higher-end coffee makers are generally going to want to hit that temperature and no higher, with the idea that heating the brewed coffee higher than that is going to compromise the flavor (or some such nonsense) by cooking it out.

A percolator will give you the hottest coffee, I think. Second to that, a coffee machine with a hot plate for the carafe will keep the stuff pretty warm.

I'm not any kind of fancy coffee guy, but the coffee machine in my house (for reasons too long to explain) is from the freakin' Netherlands, and won't dare make the coffee with actual boiling water and doesn't have a heating element for the coffee that's been made. So to keep the stuff from getting cold while I'm working, I have a cup warmer on my bench on a switch that turns off automatically after 3 hours.

For me, that works.

Out of curiosity what kind of coffee do you use? I use fresh ground beans in a cheap grinder. I am currently using a Mr Coffee which works reasonably well and has a warming burner for the carafe. I have been thinking of a better option myself. I drink mine black and like to try different brands from time to time when I find them. Currently my go to, easy to find and relatively cheap one is just 8 oclock original. But I like others better.

One thing to consider if you want to avoid a cup warmer or burner type maker is a nice thermos cup. I got one for XMas from my daughter. It's one of these:

It keeps my coffee hot for at least 4 hours and pretty warm after that. Plus it travels well. I use it at work all the time. I pour my coffee before 7:00AM and it's still plenty hot now almost two hours later.

As mr olsen said the good brewers keep the coffee at 195-205 F. Is that what your "research" tells you. Just how much hotter do you need than 200F? Do you put cold creamer in your coffee? That is only reason why I microwave my coffee.

How about a Keurig type machine? I like it in my shop because I don't have to clean baskets or a pot or buy filters. My only complaint? The coffee is so &*$*#() hot I have to wait five minutes for it to cool off!

I bought a decent Hamilton Beach one for my trailer for $40. Also the little k-cups are great for storing small parts on a project or mixing epoxy in.

If you like coffee that much, buy a bunn with a warmer on craigslist. They're always on there for around 40 bucks.

Kitchenaid made a pro line of coffee makers, toasters, bean grinders. All outrageously expensive, the coffee maker has a hi-lo switch,we keep it at lo,and i like my coffee hot.
It went south after a number of yrs.found one used, drove an hour each way to score it.
It kicks A$$! I kept the old one for parts,I want this one around for a while.
The toaster looks cool, just a toaster in a fancy dress.

If you want the best/cheapest coffee get an electric kettle as mentioned
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IWOJS9A/?tag=atomicindus08-20

and a french press
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O83LC1Q/?tag=atomicindus08-20

and if you need one, a grinder
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004SPEU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

All in $50 or so and you can make the coffee as hot as you want..

keep in mind though, you aren't supposed to make coffee with boiling water, but around 192..

I just timed my kettle to where it hit about 195 and shut it off.

Another point is that what you put the coffee in matters as well. Even if you prime a regular coffee cup with hot water, it still won't stay warm for that long... Also when i'm in the shop, I really don't like drinking out of open containers as I don't want "stuff" in my coffee.
I bought a Zojirushi travel mug similar to this one and it will keep the coffee drinkably hot all day. Even overnight, if I didn't finish (depending on how much is left in the mug) it is still warm. Also you can't spill so as long as the top is closed, stuff can't get in either...

After buying this one I got rid of all of my other ones

I loved my Kuerig for the convenience, but at $80 a month for my wife and I, that was just crazy.

Kitchenaid apparently still makes a single cup maker that brews at 200 degrees:

Are you looking to keep you brewed coffee hot or use really hot water to brew it? If you just want to keep it hot, get a Yeti 20 or 30 oz. Rambler tumbler. It will stay hot.

Go to IKEA and get a cheap French press for like $10. Boil water and there's your hot coffee.

I like to break out my French press every now and then to make some good coffee. Also good for a backup when there's a power outage in the morning. Assuming you have a gas stove, you can still make coffee.

since you're just looking for a single cup the Keurig would be perfect. its simple to use and it gets super hot. I'm talking ridiculously hot, that you can't even drink it when it first comes out. seems like what you're looking for.

I put in a instant on demand hot water tap in my kitchen. You can set the temp for any temp... all the way up to boiling. So using that and a french press = damn near instant coffee at the perfect temp, but with good quality beans.

Your brewer should maintain a water temperature between 195 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal extraction. Cheap coffee makers tend to start to low and end up going to high, thus producing sub prime results. So hotter isn't always better.

I'd get an electric kettle and a melitta(plastic) or hario(ceramic) or Kalita(stainless) for single pour-overs. You still use a filter but that makes for easier clean-up.

Fresh beans through a burr grinder (for consistent extraction) is where it's at.

I get Gaggia Classic above 8 years, no complaints. .Never buy machine with a built in grinder and the machine in question has Ok at best built in grinder. Been needs to be kept cool, dry and dark and none of those qualities on a machine with a built grinder.
