Cheap diamond grinder cup

I'm not sure if this should go in tools or flooring - either way, it's a great price if you are going to grind your concrete floor. I'm going to give the big one a shot on my 440 sq. ft. floor and maybe I can skip the $100/day rental.

I wonder if they perform and last as long as the more expensive cups... I think a replacement one for my 1773AK is like $160 or some outrageous **** like that.

It should be here tomorrow, so by Monday I'll either have epoxy curing or I'll be cursing the cheap POS and looking for a real grinder. I will report back!

So far so good - I did about 250 sq. ft last night in a little over an hour. I did it wet - washed the floor with degreaser and rinsed several times, then hit it with the grinder. This meant little dust, but it really made some nasty mud which was slung all about.

I have seen no deterioration in the speed or quality of the cut, and the cup looks the same - no lost diamonds or anything. I'm going to guess this will last more than long enough for any job you don't mind doing with a hand grinder.

I'm not getting the best finish, although my technique is improving as I go - it skitters around and just gets the top at first, but if I slow down too much it'll really eat right in. It takes some work to get a nice thin even slice off the top. Luckily it's easy to go back and clean up any rough spots, so I'm just erring on the side of too little on the first pass.

I'm also not very picky about the finish - this is a working garage, and the epoxy I throw down will be to ease cleanup and keep dust down, not to look good. But, I still think with a little patience someone could certainly do 1,000 sq. ft. with this and make it look good - probably all in one day, too.

Not bad for $50!
