I'm finishing my 24X48 garage/shop and was looking at options for drywalling the ceiling. I don't have two friends tall strong and dumb enough to hold each sheet in place while I screw them in, so I need a dry wall lift. I could rent one form home depot, at my pace the job will probably take several days, so I decided to buy one instead. Harbor freight gets something like $260 for one, and the best I could find used on Craigs list was about $200. I found a perfectly good one on line for only $140 with free shipping

It is from "discount tommy" :

Mine just arrived yesterday and it is very decent quality. Chinese built (of course) but solid.

I have no doubt I can sell it on craigs list when I'm done for most of what I paid for it.

I made an extension to slide into my cherry picker, It worked well for my 12X20 living room and 10X10 addition. I made it so it will tilt, the good part is I could get right under the sheet without the jack being in the way. I can even jack up the ceiling if I want. haha

I bought one about 4-5 years ago, looks to be the same one. Don't remember who I bought it from but think it was an ebay seller. I paid around 150 shipped also. It came with a 3-4' extension also to do taller ceilings but I haven't used the extension yet. I have used a number of times on my projects and also lots of friends will want to use it, for a case of beer of course! It's held up just fine and have had no problems with it. I'm sure if you were using it everyday you would want something more than a cheap chinese one but for the home owner it's a great tool. I bought it for the same reasons, didn't want to be rushed with a rental. Also I HATE renting anything! Usually it costs 1/4 of the price of a new one to rent it for a day or two. So if you use it a couple of times it's paid for itself. This has been my logic for my rototiller, pressure washer, drywall lift, chainsaw and many, many more purchases. I can't stand to throw money to the rental company and not get anything material, just borrow theirs for a day. The only things I feel are worth renting are heavy equipment like bobcats and lifts. And if you buy it you will always have it to use later, it's amazing how many projects come up when you have the tool. I know if I need a tool once that I will need it again down the road. I had a leak in the ceiling a couple months ago and ripped down 2 sheets of drywall to fix it. Since I had the lift it made easy work of putting the sheets back up.

You won't regret buying a drywall lift. It's similer to a cherry picker. Most people don't use them often but when you need one you need one!
