I have read numerous threads about problems with tires marking the garage floor on both epoxy and tile, and have experienced this in my own garage when the tires are parked for long periods of time on the white tiles of my VCT. While the orangish marks will scrub off with some elbow grease and a magic eraser/steel wool, this requires re-waxing that area of the floor and to be honest, can be a PITA. Well, I was at Big Lots this weekend and saw packages of 12 pre-cut carpet rectangles, made for gluing to wooden or concrete stairs. They had various colors and patterns, and the carpet is a heavy duty indoor/outdoor type stuff...It turns out they are perfect for parking on, and are just the right size for the "footprint" of my tires. I placed one under all 4 tires of both my cars, and hope it will eliminate the tread marks I have been getting on my white tile... I'm gonna back the cars out in a week and check under the carpets to see if the carpets themselves leave any marks, but I think it should be fine... I'll get back to you with my findings... if it works, its a cheap and easy fix to a common problem with tire marks on the floor... especially for cars that aren't moved in and out very often. I think the package of 12 was 7.99.

Try also a clear acetate sheet- like for an overhead projector. They will protect your floor from tire marks and remain relatively un-noticed. Pick them up at Staples or Office Depot.

You can also use lexan, very durable and clear if you dont want to have an obstruction. I intend to use it when I am finished with my build, I got the idea from a chassis builder that I bought some racecars from, when he unloaded his house car from a night at the track the 10" slicks were still warm enough to stick to the floor and leave marks, so he took an old windshield and cut it up and used it. you can buy small pieces of lexan at HD or if you know anyone who races asphalt cars they most likely have some old lexan windows around.

I know in my situation there's no way I am skilled enough to hit the target bang-on, every time. I cheat. I park my car close to where I want it. Get out and push it onto the carpet pieces. My wife refuses to do that with her vehicle so I bought 2 longer carpet strips and gave her a target on the side wall to align her car onto them. There is peace in the valley...............
Just an update to this... I found that the carpet recatangles didn;t work so hot in the long run... believe it or not, over time, the tires STILL could stain the floor even THROUGH the carpet... (I know, I wouldn't have believed it either!) I guess when theres all that weight sitting in one stpot for a long period of time, the oils from the tire eventually can penetrate the carpet. I posted these in another thread, but here's my new solution... polished stainless diamond plate in 1'x2' sections... I put some adhesive felt from the craft store on the backside and they seem to do the trick...

Joe, excellent idea and looks very cool. Thanks for the heads-up on my carpet pieces. I used remnants from the replaced interior on my Miata, no brown leak through after 16 months but I am now keeping my eye on them.
