Cheap Garage Speakers

Feels like there has been an influx of topics regarding garage systems and decided its time to get mine finished. Ive already ran speaker wire to each corner of the garage with intentions of a 4 speaker (one in each corner) setup using bookshelf style speakers. I also have a denon receiver that was given to me, and a pc i will be setting up for the input (as well as having bluetooth and standard aux inputs)

This leaves me to the speakers, I would let to get some inexpensive speakers that dont leave me with terrible quality. Craigslist is terrible in my location and i have come up dry for about a month. Is monoprice my go to for this? Anyone have some links or products they can recommend?

Cambridge Soundworks or Bose would be my choice, though Monoprice would be cool too. Just check the ratings though.

Best Buy has surround sound packages with 4 or 5 speakers and a subwoofer -- with or without a receiver. You don't need one though. Should be about $90 or less depending on the brand. Those would be small cube speakers. Something a little bigger and powerful -- you're probably looking at $50 each for a full range bookshelf speaker. Could start out with 2 and add 2 others later on.

This pair of Polk Audio speakers for $70 on sale seems like a great deal. It's a good brand and these get great reviews. $70 for a pair of quality speakers is a good price. You don't really want to go much cheaper as sound and quality will suffer.

I have not tried Monoprice speaker, though their powered subwoofer is tempting. My go to cheap speaker is the Andrew Jones designed Pioneer bookshelves. I'm not sure if they are still a current product but you can find them new for about $125 every day, and sites like newegg often run sales in the sub $75 for a pair range

I'll second the Dayton Audios. I have a set of B652s. For the price, much better than I expected. I'm also kind of picky about such things.

I was thinking around 70/pair. I'm a little flexible though because I do appreciate good music and understand that there's a huge difference in speaker quality across the range. Unfortunately my experience is in car audio and I know it doesn't translate (brand wise) to home audio.

do you have the ability to flush mount a car speaker into the roof/sheet rock attic area , near each location where you already pulled the wiring to ?
basically flush mounting a 6x9 car speaker into the roof (cut 6x9 hole in sheetrock) or upper wall / area of your planned speaker locations ?
i can explain why ,
if you have this option

I do but I don't want to use car speakers for several reasons. In no order...First thing I can think of is quality car speakers are more than I want to spend. Second I hate 6x9s. Third car speakers dont typically like being played in open air. Fourth would be car speakers are usually 4ohm where as home audio is 8ohms (I already have the home Reciever.) 5 would be the 6x9 hole in my Sheetrock lol

i understand most people would feel uneasy choosing 6x9's as a speaker .

i will try and justify it. even though you have made up your mind not to use them.

the denon receivers typically have a 4 -16 ohm stability.. without issue .
and the 4 ohm car speaker nominal impedance would be negligible to the denon

the efficiency of the 6x9 makes it a very good choice.

6x9 car speakers have a very high qts and deliver their best bass response in large open/free air applications.
for example. large car trunks and even better is a big attic space.

yes. you would need to cut the hole in the sheetrock to flush mount them.

four 6x9's mounted in the ceiling of a garage + mounted in corners will boost bass transfer function .
the 6x9's would play loud with very little power needed
since the speakers i would suggest are 92 db1w1m.
plus the computer aligned/matched woofer and tweeter/mid means the speakers will be linear in output regardless of volume level they were played at.

basically the speakers would play loud with very little amp power
and deliver very good sound quality at high or low volume settings .

i can explain more about the 6x9 if you like

....
but ........i will suggest another type of speaker instead too .
.

I guess the final nail in that coffee would be I have insulation above my Sheetrock so I would have to build an enclosure anyways lol

no. the 6x9 works best in an open air / free air application.
the adding of a box would actually hurt/reduce the sound quality .

the 6x9 speakers are designed to be exposed to moisture and high heat and other nasty conditions of a car environment, most home-speakers cannot endure.

the 6x9 speaker works best flush mounted right into the sheet rock with the large attic used as the enclosure ....even mounted on a thin template of 1/8th inch 1/4" or 1/2 inch mdf as the diffraction baffle to solidify the bass even more
which is then mounted to the hole cut in the rock

the insulation in the attic is a non issue to the 6x9 .
a simple mesh basket fabricated on the back of the speaker to keep the insulation from getting into the back of the speaker/wiring will allow the speaker to perform very well.
but i understand you dont want to go this route

i will suggest another type of speaker instead.

..........

do you have a speaker enclosure size/enclosure /dimensions/ HxWxD limit ?

do you have any problem with mounting a heavy duty speaker cabinet in each corner ?
