I have 6 of them in my garage. Same brand and product from the same amazon link. There def cheap and it shows in the product but they light well and thats why you buy lights. I have had them up about 7 months. What i like about them is there separate lights. So i can spread 6 lights over a bigger area compaired to two bulbs per fixture. It takes about 8 to light up half of a 25x25ft garage. This dosnt include task lighting over a bench.

Im going to buy one or two more when they go back down to $49. These will replace comercial t5/6 fixtures with 4 bulbs.

Found a local deal for (10) used T5 fixtures with bulbs for $50. The fixture holds only one bulb and it’s black. The brand is Peerless. Seems like a reputable brand, but I don’t know much about light brands. Should I jump on it?

Need more info.
Are they T5HO or just regular T5?
Open lamps, no shades or diffusers?
What will you use them for?
Ceiling height?

The garage is a 20x20 with a 10.5x9 space in the back. Ceiling is 8'. As can be seen in the picture, I currently have 2 4’ double T8 (I think) fluorescent fixtures in the main garage space, and 1 4’ double T8 fixture in the extra space. The fixture in the extra space needs new ballast.

The fixtures I’m looking at seem to be T5, not the HO ones. However they are recessed and since I want to do surface mounted conduit I don’t think it will work, maybe I’m wrong.

It appears to be what is referred to as a "slot light", being recessed into a slot in the ceiling. If the ballast has a "54" in the part number, it's an HO. If it has a "28" in the part number it's not an HO.
You see slot lights used as an architectural feature more so than for general illumination, although I've seen them used both ways. The lamp is mounted fairly deep into the fixture, which limits the spread of light coming out of the fixture. If they're hung high enough, it can be OK. Slot lights can also be used in hallways or to focus light onto a specific target.
They're cool, especially in black, but I think they'll be too narrow of a light distribution for you.

that 6500k would really bother me....

There needs to be a lot of light for 6500K to look natural. Even 5000K only looks natural when you get up around 100 foot candles.

I am a firm believer that the color temperature needs to be selected based on the light level. Otherwise it just looks off.

I am pretty skeptical of any cheap led lights. I put in some cheap led tape lights under my parents kitchen cabinets a few years ago and while they still work they have dimmed out quite a bit already.

So I have a standard 2 car garage approximately 20x20. I have two 4' double tube T8 light fixtures and for now lights up the garage enough but I'll be using my garage more often for projects. Since the budget is tight, I'm considering these:

What are you thoughts?
My garage is the same size. All that was in there were a couple of lamp sockets on the ceiling. I went from 100 to 150 to 200 watt incadescent bare bulbs. Even the 200s were not great and did not last very long. I was resigned to the idea that I had put up led fixtures on that high ceiling. The trouble with fixtures is they direct the light down to a limited area and you need enough fixtures to cover the whole garage and they are a PIA to install. I saw those multiple bulb socket adapters on Amazon and ebay but reviews suggest they are **** quality. What I ended up doing was buying Leviton 1 to 2 bulb adapter sockets at HD. I screwed 3 of them together to to yield 4 sockets. I did this twice, one cluster for 4 bulbs for each ceiling socket. Then used 8 100 watt equivalent bulbs. I wanted 4000K "cool white" like is typical in fluorescents and their led replacements. Those could only be found online. Color is a personal preference but I dislike the bluer leds and the 2700-3000K incandescent equivalents do not appear as bright to the eye The bulbs actually use 15 watts each so I only use 60 watts in each socket. The walls and ceiling reflect the light. There are virtually no shadows and it looks like daylight in that garage. It is BRIGHT. It is the eqivalent of 800 watts of incandescents It just took a couple of minutes to screw in the 2 clusters. The bulbs were $5.49 each. I orderd 10 so shipping was free. and the socket adapters were 3 bucks each though I probably could have gotten them cheaper. The bulbs are Lumegen and are 1600 lumens as a 100 watt equivalent should be. I spent around $65 that comes close to 6 Feits from Costco, when on sale, so it was not a great saving but I am very happy with the result, ease of installation and I have 2 exta bulbs to use elsewhere. Best of all, I did not have to sweat over locating a bunch of fixtures for best coverage.

None of that made any sense...

All common sizes of lamps T5, T8 and T12 are available in many different color temperatures. From 3000k (warm white) to 4100K (cool white) and 6500 (daylight). T8's and T5's usually have even more options in between.

Heck I'm pretty sure you can even get T12 in 7500K, which is getting to be more blue than white.

Almost getting a little blue? 7500K is getting damn near UV and almost looks purple. I can barely tolerate 500OK. For work areas 4100 "cool white" was the color of choice for decades until they started claiming all this blue white light looks like natural sunlight. If you have ever seen a spectrum response chart for one of these led bulbs, it ain't even close.

I edited it, hopefully that makes you happy:rolleyes:

4100k is a nice color. I don't install much 5000k unless the lighting is pushing 100 foot candles, then 5000k looks ok.

I bought 12 of these....have put up 6 so far because I'm still in the process of finishing my addition.....so far I like the amount of light they put out...I will likely buy 6 more....my new addition is about 750 ft²

it seems like many people have had some success with the Barrina T5 Amazon fixtures. Went ahead and ordered these, They seem to be this weeks flavor of the barrina fixture:

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B079FC9T9K/ref=pe_3034960_233709270_TE_item

It ended out being $60 CAD for 2 day shipping to my door and came with a 5 yr warranty.

Got them all setup in a large rectangle in the ceiling. The sides plugged directly into each other. For the ends I needed to extend the harness provided.

It felt like -12c on Saturday so it was a Hasty install. I would like to clean up the wiring when it is a bit warmer. The light output is incredible and they fire right up in the cold.

I will also need to get bulbs with the correct colour temperature in the garage door light, but thats a minor detail.

They even cast a nice bright light halfway down the driveway. Overall I am super happy with the product, Just need to tidy everything up once its warm.

Selling a 3' lighting fixture is the big-box marketing equivalent of selling a 20' extension cord instead of a 25', or a 41" TV instead of a 42" TV.
