Cobbler,
I use the Milescraft Pocket Jig 200 from Home Hardware. Got it on sale for $29 and seems to work fine for what I need.

You'd be spending about $40 but the Kreg 320 jig is plenty for me (I have an extra drill guide and spacers though). They have great customer service too. I had a broken material thickness stop and they sent me a whole extra drill guide set for free.

Plus screws and bits can be picked up at most any big box store.

I have used the cheapos. I found that the metal liners or bushings were so soft that the bit flutes took shavings of crappy metal from them.
Do yourself a favor and spend a few extra on the Kreg.

Well it turns out I ordered a General from ebay, and a friend has given me a cheap one. I have 1 job where I need it, never used one before. If I find more projects I will buy a quality one
Thanks all
