Wright makes some nice roundheads, but they are priced as such.

Yes so many nice options! I was looking in the sub 20 dollar range that napa one is looking pretty interesting to me. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Never used one. The direction appears to change with a toggle lever.

If you could look past the knurling, these Williams USA made round heads are a relative bargain: https://www.toolsdelivered.com/williams-bb-52a-3.8-inch-drive-7-5.8-inch-round-heavy-duty-ratchet. 60 tooth I think, and very smooth. Even better, is an SK tuff1 - same type mechanism, with a very small head. You might look on ebay for a Wright with the "tootsie roll" handle, something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Wright-3400-3-8-Drive-Ratchet/284061516807?hash=item422362c407:g:zp0AAOSwc-Ffmx0W. The older ones are 45 tooth, the newer ones have dual pawl for 90 tooth. Same ratchet is available in a "contour" grip, which feels great, but new will probably be more than you want to spend.

I got the 3/8 version as a warranty exchange for a Danaher era NB43 ratchet. The direction switch is clever since it makes changing direction easier than the usual round head. Beyond that I don't recall the mechanism being anything remarkable and it got put with some other infrequenty used tools. I should go dig it out and give it another look. I guess for round heads I like my Wright and SK ratchets more, but those aren't exactly cheap.

Is it just preference or is there some other reason to want a round one? There are such small teardrop ratchets with high tooth count for not much more.

Home Depot Husky roundheads. Smooth handles, cheap ($10-15) durable (survive falling 40' out of manlifts onto pavement).

Agreed. I grabbed one of these almost by accident when I had to remove the seats unexpectedly to fit some clearance flooring in my wife's RAV4. Surprisingly decent and unkillable.

Interesting now im starting to like sound of the husky one. The price is really compelling as well. Im guessing it would be as good as an old task force 3/8 round head?

Better than the TaskForce ones. At least as good as the old indestro. Like them better than my old SKs or the Gearwrench rattys.
For what they are asking, the WWIlliams ratchets Coach linked look real good as well. Alleged made in USA>
