Cheap Sockets - Decent Quality

I thought this might be a useful thread....

DeWalt has a 24mm 1/2" drive for $7.61 delivered (on Google search/Buy)

I'm gonna avoid Lowes due to the recent anti-Lowes thread

I finally found something I could use (damn VW:mad:) but during my lengthy search for:

1. why is my Snapon big 1/2" drive bar missing a 24 which I need
and
2. any dang thing I can use to pull the steering wheel nut on a Vanagon

I briefly contemplated having to get a single socket. I'd do it online since I got plenty to do instead of

a. wasting time driving to a hardware store
and
b. risking my life going into a hardware store...:spit:

that anti lowes thread was totally blow out or proportion. buy what you want but in the end the guy was taken care of when he talked to the right people. of course that matterd none to the holier than though crowd on either side of that debate.

cheap **** for pennies on the dollar is cheap **** for pennies on the dollar. that doesn't mean it is bad. it just means use it til it don't, replace and move on. your dewalt socket really isn't much different.

if you figure that you got one socket for almost 9 bucks...... you can almost buy a whole set of import sockets for that.

I won't recommend or buy Dewalt sockets any more. Once what were real nice, reasonably priced sockets, have been cheapened since SBD released Craftsman. Dewalt sockets now feature that stupid double detent retention system on the square drive end like craftsman sockets had. :wtf:

i think he was hoping for an attaboy or to the continue the lowes bashing. if he chooses to buy a dewalt socket....great, tell us why. to say he bought because it wasn't from lowes? not much of a reason to mention that other than to continue stirring the pot on an already locked and deleted thread.

I don't get why people go to the efforts to post threads like this. I know y'all bored at present but before I start a thread, I kinda consider whether folks would be interested in it first.

Stanley sockets from Walmart are about as cheap as you can find.

I have bought a set for a single repair when I didn't have any tools with me and they worked great.

This guy started a thread for something that cost less than a ProV1 golf ball. Sure glad I don't live on that side of the tracks.

If I need a single socket I go to Paul B Zimmerman hardware. If you locate the wrench in sales Flier you get $5 off $20. Bought a lot of loose SK this way. Also eBay and Amazon are good sources. I purchased a 1/4 drive proto and and a 3/8 drive proto set for a song on eBay. Actually they are blackhawks. Both were sae . I purchased a kobalt 1/4 metric set at Lowe’s to keep with the 1/4 proto and a 3/8 craftsman (China) set for $6 on amazon to go with 3/8 proto. Both the kobalt snd Craftsman were sockets only. Unless bought at a dollar store most sockets are ok. I recently put some craftsman USA 3/8!6 points stored in a drawer on a socket rail. The set was 8-22mm. I was missing a 14mm. I bought a Blackhawk 14mm from home depot .com for $5. Wanted a 24mm for the set and bought a wera for $14 on eBay. I didn’t mind posting . Nothing else to do.

You couldn't afford to live on my side of the tracks.

Many churches teach that thriftiness is a virtue.

What is with the hostility form the 3 mowrons here?

I thought it would be interesting to others to see if there were low cost, decent quality sockets.

Let the steem out... It is just that pretty often themes get well-known, so they become recyclable... Thank you for your findings, here you gotta grow thick skin

I didn’t have a problem with your thread. If I can help or contribute I do. If I can’t I don’t post. And if a topic doesn’t interest me I don’t click on it.

You got one socket for $9.00?

At that unit price, the 200 piece Husky set that was $59 a couple months ago would have cost $1800. Maybe it’s that much better...don’t know.

Never understood why people buy single sockets unless it’s a fill in or replacement for a lost socket. Yours sounds like a fill in.

I'll often buy singles if it's a weird size. Especially something very large. Brought a single 36mm recently as I lost the other and there is no need for a set with 35mm and other never used sockets.

i can afford to live on your side of the tracks. i just don't advertise it and mot people don't know or care.

i have no idea what this has to do with religion but i i don't go there as i know where i stand and where anyone else stands is there business.

i have not been hostile or callesd anyone a name.

you didn't ask that question about low cost options. you stated something about a cheap socket. said lowes was questionable and said you bought a dewalt socket. you decision was already made before you started the thread.
