Yeah, I thought that was weird too. Seems that it should come in a squeeze tube if it's air cured.

I just found out the other day that the nozzle has a sort of pull-push process. Maybe I should read the bottle but the print is super small.

$6 a bottle difference. If I was using 100 bottles a month, it would be a concern. I go through maybe a bottle a year. I'll stick with Loctite!

I have never completely used up a bottle. A couple extra bucks for a lifetime supply is worth it to get the real thing!

Anaerobic part is correct. Cures in absence of air, iirc reactive metals act as a catalyst.

Yes, ions from the metal react -- in the absence of oxygen -- with one of the additives in the threadlocker, which kicks off the polymerization reaction. The lack of these ions is why some materials (stainless, aluminum, coated) don't reliably bond with it. There are primer/activators that enable them to work on those surfaces, and make other joints more predictable. Given the number of joints I have taken apart where the first indication that a threadlocker was used is seeing it on the removed bolt, they should probably be used a lot more.

Loctite is anaerobic (doesn't need air). Which is why the bottle is half full of air. To keep it liquid until you use it.

The 243 might be more, that is the oil resistant formula, look for 242 for comparable.

I recall reading that it took locktite a long time to come up with a breathable plastic material that allows oxygen to pass through it, so the half filled bottle is an alternate solution I guess.

back in the day, Radio Repairmen used Glyptol. I think it was similar to varnish.
