Craftsman used to have some pretty cheap ones on sale, especially if they did NOT have ball bearing slides.

Isn't Harbor Freight currently clearing out their old style boxes. I think someone posted about them being cleared out this month, maybe at the parking lot sale. Having said that, I agree with Musicinabottle, Craigslist is a good place to start. People have also constructed some interesting stuff from IKEA pieces. Not sure what's currently in their collection.

I have heard Lowes is temporarily clearing out some of their Kobalt boxes to make room for their (Father's Day?) launch of the Craftsman line, including Craftsman Boxes. In general, there should be some good Father's Day discounts if you aren't in a hurry.

first thing i did. nothing around me. even looked on FB market and nothing but thats nothing new for my area. not good when it comes to finding tool related stuff.

If you need it right away, then craigslist won't do, but if you sit back and be patient, I know lots of people are getting tax returns and up grading, and selling their old stuff for cheap. What's your budget?

Get the new HF.. $159 with coupon.. it beats the $800 blue point.. (and yes I said that on purpose).. :D

2,359 posts...doesn't know anything about 5 drawer rolling cabinets...hmpf

It is hard to take this seriously. Yeah, new the HF wins without a runner up within 100 miles.

Menards Performax line are pretty decent for casual use boxes. As long as you don't load them down, they work very nicely. I've got one in my basement.

Anyone know what STORE sells the cheapest 5 drawer rolling cabinet?

I honestly do not know the answer. But I would check the auto parts stores, hardware and home improvement stores, in addition to Farm and Fleet, Northern Tool, Acme Tools, and implement dealerships.

Are there plans for using the cabinet top for a work or storage surface??

Home Depot sells their basic 4 drawer (not 5, I know) rolling cabinet for $119. It goes on sale for $99 fairly often, I bought one at that price about a year ago.

Its what you would expect, cheap with cheap drawer slides, even for a husky cabinet, but they are ball-bearing slides. Its cost effective and good storage for stuff you don't use that much. Just as cheap or cheaper than base cabinets, and I would argue more useful.

I have a Husky 5 drawer 26" cabinet. Looks okay. ball bearing drawers work, and good enough for the 2nd or 3rd box in a home garage. Cheapest storage i could find

Ok, gen 2 4 drawer carts are out from HF. W coupon they r $99.. buy 2 for $200, stack the drawer units.. problem solved

OR - goto lowes, go on Amazon - find the cheapest POS you can find, then kick yourself for not getting the 5 drawer HF CART

Home Depot (look online that have a lot of choices) or go Sears if you got one of them left

But those less expensive ones are truly cheap and not meant for much weight. I looked around a lot about 2 seasons ago and finally bought a 5 drawer from Sears. I went with a better unit than the cheapest and on sale was still less than $200 before taxes.

And still that was nothing much to write home about.

Definitely check Walmart. Off sale their stuff is about as cheap (in more than one sense) as it gets. Every now and then you get lucky. I found a Stanley top box (6 drawer, 18" deep, ball bearing slides) for $50. Not pro quality but great for my application.
