Well, here's what I came up with. Not sure if i would do this over again. $50 plus about $10-15 in gas, so I'm $60 in. On the phone the guy says 1 battery doesn't hold much of a charge but the other is good. Agrees to have the good one charged when I get there the next day.

Get there and he says "oh I just plugged it in a minute ago". We ALL know what that means---both batteries are ****. It is a standard set including a finish router which he included that was purchased separately (and I have no use for).

Since I had driven so far I said screw it and made the buy. Looks like batteries are about $40, so i will be $100 into this set. Original plan was to spend $40 or so on a drill...:dunno:

Once I came across the set on cl I got to thinking about how nice a cordless circular saw (even if light duty) would be in addition to a drill. And then the light...maybe I can put it in the blast cabinet or would that be a bad idea?

You can get the lithium batteries for that set, no? If so, spend the extra $!!! You'll need a corresponding charger I believe.

I've got the 12V light, it's awesome and I stick it on my shop press to shine down on the work. I wouldn't put it in a blast cabinet.

If you can get lithium (full size), then go for it. Otherwise the nicads are okay as long as you keep them charged and not let them sit idle for months.

Another vote for Ryobi......

For the money, a very good value. The drills are variable speed...but also have a speed selector for low and high. I can drive 1/4" screws with it on low speed.

I must have about 15 of their tools....including the compound miter and table saw.....

I think they are the best value out there....

Look for a combi kit....one with a drill and sawzall.....you will get a lot more use out of sawzall than you think....like cutting off tree branches....

I think you're going to end up with a Black and Decker again, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I have a B&D cordless screwdriver that runs circles around the Ryobi Tec4.

For under $40 I think this is what you're looking at.

I'd get this. I bough the 20v Chainsaw they make and that thing has now outlived the Stihl my dad bought 2 weeks after that's seen less use and abuse. Plus you can buy two extra batteries on Amazon for $50.
