Cheapest flare wrenches that work, or just get crowsfoot flares?

I'm not using them professionally. So they will only get used a few times a year, so price is a concern to me. I also understand that cheap flare nut wrenches will do nothing but cause frustration so I'm willing to spend a few bucks to get a decent set, but at the same time I'm trying not to spend a ton of money on something that will just sit in the box most of the time. Hoping to find a middle ground, in other words the cheapest set that is worth using.

I've watch ebay for snap on but the metric seams to go pretty high all the time. I picked up a snap on set of SAE for decent price but haven't been able to find a metric set.

I'm leaning towards the gearwrench 6 piece set for 45 bucks.

I was in the same boat, I have Blackhawk SAE and Proto Metric. I live in AZ, so rust isnt an issue, but I have been happy so far.

I use SK for flare nut wrenches. I did have a set of old logo snap on's that I replaced. I like the feel of the SKs and they are beefy. I haven't spread any, but then again I am using them on fuel and brake lines and not on heavy duty stuff.

+1.

You will regret no getting good flare wrenches. Nothing is worse than rounding a flare nut.

I have SO and MAC. Both are good. Watch ebay and in classifieds. You will get a set and have good quality.

yep..i had a set of craftsman and rounded out everything i touched , finnaly got tired of all the ruined fixings and got some used snap on - no problems sinse then

as said get odd ones from ebay when they come up , chances are you only need a couple sizes for most jobs then fill in the gaps when you can

I would also get both sets. I run into some aftermarket replacement parts that still use sae for bleeders and other things. That non flex gearwrench deal looks sweet.

Used my 18mm gearwrench line wrench today to take two very crusty, very tight steering lines off of a 99 Astro with 277,000 Michigan miles.
