5. Figure out where Larry_g 's Attachments went.....
In the old system there was an Attachments page where all the pictures that were directly attached to posts could be brought up and used in another post. These pictures were not in Albums. All of my early photos were in these Attachment pages and I cannot find them as a list, only in the posts they were used in. I also remember that these attachment pages had a link to the post it was attached to. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks and keep up the good work.

If I get enough requests for a system like that, I will build it... I know it can be done... just time consuming as hell...

Hey Ryan - you mentioned in the other thread on number of results on the new posts page that there's a cost associated with the number of posts. If you have time and are looking for a distraction from actual work could you elaborate on that? This is just a curiosity thing on my part so if you don't have time (or you just don't feel like answering) I'm totally OK with that.

The most expensive thing about hosting a forum are the resources required... resources are basically the processing power required to host large amounts of traffic doing process intensive things. The biggest thing is "searching." That's why search engines on independent sites always ****.

Anyway, when you tell the site you want to see "new posts," it's just running a search with lots of parameters. One of those parameters is how far back to search. To get more results to show on the new posts page, I had to change that parameter to look back a longer distance in time. On a site with 25-million page views per month, that gets expensive FAST.

Another curiosity question. How much data is this site? Like if I wanted to download (for ex.) the site to a REALLY big flash drive, how big would that flash drive be. I figure this site has to have an insane amount of data in the 100s of TB

Alrighty then. I can always sift through old posts to find the pictures. I'm know nothing of the programming but could they be dumped into an album? Is there some terms I could use in a google search to suss them out? Not wanting you to have to do a bunch of programming for me but something I , and others, could do to find them.

'/'attachments '/'myusername

I get some results, I don't know why.

On VB, they were categorized the same pretty much... and stored in a DB much in the same way Xenforo does. However, XF just doesn't have the feature. I would have to build it... If enough people want it, I will certainly do so.

This is a truly honest question. Since you have discontinued Tapatalk, do you think all the images that were uploaded will eventually be broken? If no one can log in, why would they pay to host the images? The answer to this question could be scary as can be, I am not sure you have a handle on how many images they actually do host on this forum.

if the images were hosted here, they will not be deleted.

if they were hosted on tapatalk, probably… but, they may keep them there just so they can drop cookies and track.

Can you send me a link to a thread with tapatalk hosted images? I have an idea.

After the photobucket fiasco, I started using dropbox, but that was cumbersome and near impossible while mobile.

Thanks Ryan. That implies that you're billed for processor usage by the host. Is that correct? Again, just curious. I have no actual need to know.

Ryan, I have hundreds in my own thread, click my signature. I didn't start using them until a ways in, but the links are clearly tapatalk oriented.

One image path:

A page with images from my thread:

This is going to be fixed today... It's going to take a few hours... at least... but the servers are downloading all of those hot linked images now. Once done, the hot linked images will be replaced by images hosted on my server.

Thanks Ryan. It's the fixes like these that will keep this site as an incredible resource moving forward.

Yes... 175,896 images... Cuz Tapatalk can kiss my ***.

It's costing me a small fortune to have them kiss my ***, but totally worth it...

Seriously, how many forums owners would go to the trouble to do this and shell out the $$$ to do so ?

I figured there were a lot of images that could be damaged if Tapatalk decided to kill the links. Good choice for sure, it means a lot to all present and future members, some of this content is found no where else.

It is notifications that you get as soon as they come in, not when you refresh or are on the forum. If you like notifications, it isn’t going to harm you much, but it could take a little off your battery as it works all the time in the background.

Can you make the number of pages larger next to the thread titles?
:+1:
I commonly click the last page, and the small numbers are a little cumbersome.
Its been bugging me for a while, but didnt want to hassle Ryan.
