Check my panel for code compliance

Hey all, as part of my garage build my house panel will be inspected for the new garage feed. Anyone want to give feedback for code issues in the box?

Appreciate your help,

What is that 40 amp disconnect above the wall? Max height is normally 6'6"

What size wire are you using for the feed? I see aluminum on a 90 amp breaker so I guess it is 2 gauge. Is that dirt on the one leg or is the insulation damaged? Otherwise looks clean.

I could not land a #2 awg on the neutral bar in my panel in the normal screw-terminal locations and had to use another lug.

Serious question:
why are there some white wires coiled before connection to breaker? Does it have to do with GFI or something?

I got to wonder whas it for too. I just did an upgrade where the last guy did it and left a bunch of old snot next to the panel, would have save his dumb *** a lot of work to knock it off the wall and hook to the breaker. This looks good, got the bond screw in which is the number 1 thing.

You need a bushing on the end of that conduit connector - required for #4 and larger. Did you use anti-oxide inhibitor on all alum connections?

Inspector probably only concerned with feeder as I assume that is only in scope at this location.
In addition to above comments, i would at least add rubber bushings where the k.o's are only partially removed in top of panel. Really should not have used them in first place without having panel lower.

Not an expert, seeking enlightenment:

Bushings required on plastic conduit fittings?
Is a bushing required on the metal fitting where the service entrance cable enters the box?
Grommet or Romex clamp where wires enter box- yes. Remove wire, insert grommet/fitting, reconnect wire. I'm not sure it was passed, but some years ago it was proposed to prohibit retrofitting grommets; no cutting the grommet and installing it around the wire already in place. Code gurus, is this the rule now?

Bushing is required to hold pipe in place but I honestly can not tell if there is one on there or not.

A locknut is required on any connector at a minimum. I thought i saw one, but 2nd look-maybe not.
Bushings required on plastic conduit fittings? Yes for #4 and larger nec 300.4
Is a bushing required on the metal fitting where the service entrance cable enters the box? No, jacket should extend past connector edge 1/4" min
Grommet or Romex clamp where wires enter box- yes. Remove wire, insert grommet/fitting, reconnect wire. That would be the best way, but in his pic, there are two cables that enter w/o connectors I suspect due to no clearance with floor joists - hard to tell in pic. My recco was to just bush it(or better use arlington black buttons) so a sharp edge isn't going to cut through insulation at later date.

Thanks all for your feedback, I'll try to answer them all. If I missed one, remind me!

The box on the upper left is a inside disconnect for the A/C, fed from a separate meter, with another outside disconnect by the condenser. It was there when we moved in over 20 years ago. It's feed with 6 gauge SER, and really old SER in conduit outside to the A/C disconnect. I'd be happy to fix it if the inspector wants.

Feed to the garage is MHF 2-2-4-6, 4 being the max in my ground bus. Inspector approved this for the garage feed after wire and cable your way sent the wrong stuff. They gave me a heads up before it arrived, and credited the difference. Very pleased with the process. That's dirt on the cable, not damage. Good eyes!

The conduit with garage feeder does have a locknut, but no separate bushing. What kind of bushing? Does it go inside the conduit?

No anti-oxidant on the MHF, I didn't think it's required for connection to the breaker or neutral/ground bars since they are aluminum. If it's a good idea I have some.

There is one knockout that's not completely removed, but the hole does have a bushing. I'll remove the rest of the knockout.

There is a 6-3 w/G in what looks like a 1 1/4" knockout with the wrong size clamp around it. Trying to figure out how to best fix that. If a rubber grommet is compliant I'll add one or the Arlington black buttons if they come in that size. Home Despot doesn't carry them that I've found.

The panel has never been inspected, wondering what they will say about that... I'm doing other work in the house to convert an existing attached garage to living space, have asked them about a permit allowing more work, for a little more money.
