kctyphoon,

Tomorrow, Sears will introduce in their stores under their "Extreme Grip" branding a clone of that Stanley adjustable locking wrench but with a comfort handle and serrated edges in the jaws for extra gripping power. I attached below pictures of the new Craftsman wrench. Here is a link to the 10-inch Craftsman Extreme Grip adjustable wrench on Sears.com: LINK.

In your basement...seriously, go look now!
Extreme Grip might be this year's Mach line but they seem less, I don't know, garbagy albeit just as gimmicky. The locking Crescent type wrench is a "might buy" in my book. Seen the sockets, not bad but not needed. Seen the screwdrivers, look almost the same as Stanley Diamond Tips at Lowe's for twice the price.

I have one of these I use and it is perfect for certain scenarios like on a tower or working from a lift where dropping a tool or slipping off a fastener could be dangerous. I do typically use tethers in these situations but they don't always work well and they don't help as far as slipping off a fastener.

For normal adjustable wrench usage I don't really see an advantage...

They are interesting. I like the idea of a locking wrench that won't fall off like Beemer says. they might even be good for things like plastic fittings where even if you size it right, the plastic deforms a bit and slips. I kind of like them.
