...It seemed as though he didn't buy much of anything. He made it. Apparently he lived to be over 90 and passed away recently.

Despite the nay sayers on his machines, I feel
Quite privileged to have come across his stuff and was able to make it part of my garage.
The only thing I wish would have been able to know him while he was alive and be able to have soaked up some of that knowledge from him.
I don't even know the guy but I can tell from his garage, he was an incredibly intelligent guy.
His son tells me he only had a 7th grade education.

Wow. What a powerful and moving story. Thank you, jmlcolorado, for having both the humility and confidence to share this experience, knowing that some may consider you a fool for wasting your time on such junk.

I imagine myself standing in your work boots as this adventure unfolded. What a privilege it was to be able to cast your gaze over a lifetime accumulation of homemade gadgets... gadgets made to make other gadget, which, in turn, made tooling for the earlier gadgets.

The collection has been dispersed. What wasn't sold will be tossed away. No photos, no videos, no interview with the old man. But we have your thread. Thank you for sharing it, and thank you everybody for adding color and flavor to this marvelous adventure.

The fact remains he did not ask if this was a wise investment, nor did he ask for anyone's opinion on how to save or invest his money. He likes the thing, and home brew things like it, and that's enough.

Bingo. I have no use for something like this. But I'd give $50 for it in a N.Y. minute just to have something this cool. Shoot, he could even modify it to open pop tops or something. Just a thought.

For $50, why not? It's a conversation piece if nothing else. Not everything has to work like a Monarch to be appreciated. It is what it is.
