It's a display case that looks like it was custom built to fit an early (1930's?) "Master" (1/2" drive) socket set. I've never seen anything like it before. The absence of a ratchet might make it even older, possibly a prototype display?

Is it one of those original socket handle sets from them? The “5 does the work of 50” or something like that?

That's cool, but as to the no shiny feature mentioned, wasn't SO started as an industrial tool company? That would certainly explain the finish. Especially as those types of drivers would probably be used in an industrial/millwright environment.

Looking at the OP’s picture his looks like an earlier award set as his isn’t gold plated like mine was. Still very cool that a company like Snap-On could come from such a simple start.
I would have guessed a shadowbox like military retirees get but for retired Snap-On dealers

That is a 75th Anniversary sales contest award replica set of the original Snap-On complete tool set in a custom oak display box. I gave mine to a friend that I got into the business who is now the regional manager in our area.5183565B-97C5-43C8-A40F-93B17C7FEBEC.jpeg
