Check this out, custom foam gearwrench holder orders

So today a whole new GW deal thread popped up. Of course the old thread was mentioned and it occurred to me I hadn't checked their clearance section in a couple years. And no, it doesn't exist any longer.

But!, while surfing thru the new site what do I find? They now offer custom cut foam inserts. Apparently you pick your size and custom colors and then drag and drop your tools onto or into it. Then take that order number they assign and go find an authorized GW guy to quote and order it.

Considering how much GW stuff there is on this board I figured I'd toss it out there. Heck I have so much of their stuff I might just give this a try myself.

I really like it but to me there seems to be way too much wasted space.

Look we all know shadowing isn't for everyone but it appears the amount of wasted space is totally dependent upon how well your organize your layout. If you go towards the bottom of that link there was a picture of a wrench rack where the cut allowed the wrenches to stay on edge. If that's the case you could pack sets as tightly as you can with a standard rack......maybe. :lol_hitti

I think standing on edge is nearly as tight as a rack. Probably good for a mobile box so its not clankin and grinding away when you drive around, hit bumps, etc.

Don't think I'd bother for a tool chest that never moves though

I have a 42pc 1/4"/&3/8" GW socket set that came in a EVA foam tray that sat inside a regular latch-locking metal box. The foam trays they do are very good IMO. I can turn it upside down and it holds all the sockets, ratchets & extensions in place. Its very compact with little wasted space. I can put the foam tray straight into a tool chest draw and its very space clever. I am not a much of a GW fan, I like their ratchets & a few things but was really impressed with their EVA foam trays compared to plastic molded ones that crack & crumble that don't really hold sockets in place that other brands I own came in.

I went to the page today and it looks like they don't offer it to DIYers yet.
I sent GW an email earlier asking about their EVA systems in general since they still offer it in Australia.

Has anyone been able to get a custom maxx tray made for them?

I have had my wrenches in foam for years. It is the best way to do wrenches.
The advantage is that I can stack 3 and even 4 wrenches high without taking more space.
I can also see instantly if one was not put back.

Sockets go on a rack, separate locations for each socket does not work for me
