my wife was at a sale the other day and bought this large coffee can of sockets for me most were japan but its the thought that counts right lol.and the ones that were USA made were very rusty and pitted.after cleaning up some of them I found this thought it was kind of cool. looks like this one got stuck and got stamped twice. have any of you seen one like this before ?. it is a craftsman v 9/16

Not personally, but have seen others in some pictures. Kinda makes ya wonder, did these get tossed in the garbage, or smelted down again? I'm sure it happens/ed more than once. Kinda cool.

I've got several C-Man sockets that were stamped upside down, but that's the first double-stamped I've seen.

That's pretty cool. I wonder if Sears would offer these sockets and other manufacturing flawed items at a discount back in the day?:dunno:

How about this? My Craftsman Industrial set came with a 12pt 10mm 3/8" socket that just has 6 points. Look up the Craftsman item #23132, and sure enough this thing should be 12pt.

You can 'clean' rusted or pitted socket exteriors by chucking them in a square drive bit in a drill and polishing the hell out of them with finer and finer wet/dry paper. Then just keep them oiled. They'll make good beater/loaner/jobsite sockets.

If that was a stamp or a coin, it could pay for your retirement and your kids' retirement. Alas...
