I decided to give Tekton a try and bought a 1/4 and 3/8 socket set. First socket out of the case is the 7/16 which immediately rounds off the 1/4-20 nut I tried to tighten. Checked the nut against my 7/16 combo wrench and it fits.

Pulled out my dial caliper and the socket is oversized by .045. I don't expect perfection from value priced tools....but they do need to at least perform the function I bought them for.

Probably a stamping error on the size, that checks out to alittle over 12mm.

Maybe check the OD and compare to your 11mm and 12mm metrics to see what blank they were even using.

Id personally be much more concerned with a massively crappy broach than a randome mislabel of a socket (randome mistakes seem to happen).

Using a rediculously out of spec broaching tool would be way out of line on the other hand and signify a bigger problems-- because the socket is going to break as the walls are too thin--so if it doesn **** on your harware your likely to bust your knuckels or FOD contaminate a work piece with shattered socket shards.

The 12 mm is closest in size to the flats and the OD, but the 7/16 is larger in both respects.

^This.

I had a friend buy some $7 wire strippers from them and the rep bent over backwards in every way to not only replace, but upgrade the tool.

Their customer service was outstanding.

My toolbox is a mishmash of manufacturers from the random Snap-ON, Bonney, and Plomb to no-name India stamped garbage. I'm at the point where I'd like to get a little consistency in brand with my sockets and wrenches so I can organize them better and my toolbox doesn't look like a bag of mashed buttholes.

Their customer service reputation was one of the deciding factors in my decision to start purchasing their tools along with their reputation as a higher quality value priced tool.

I bought the socket set as sort of a litmus test before really dumping money into a brand of tool I've never held or used.......and right out of the gate they failed.

This is surprising. I have the 1/4, 3/8 sets and a full set of metric/SAE shallow/deep 1/2 impact sockets and every one has fit the fastener correctly.

Hey, shoot me an email and I can get this figured out for you.

I bought a set over Christmas and in the box there were two of the same sizes.

Hey Smokey,

Shoot me an email and I can get a new socket out to you.

Thanks!

I have a set of metric and regular, shallow and deep sockets as part of a Tekton kit with ratchet, universals, extensions and carrying case. I thought they were pretty nice for the price and have held up great so far on a number of small automotive projects.

As someone who has had snap-on, Mac, and matco you have these problems too. The only difference is how the manufacturer handles the problem. I bought a complete set of 1/2 deep well from the snap-on guy to find that I had some identical sockets. Told him the next week that there is something wrong and he proceeded to argue with me. Last time I bought any tool off that toolbag.

I have since bought some socket sets and ratchets off tekton and only had a problem was with one ratchet but there customer service was the best I have had getting a tool replaced in a long time.

Discovered this week that runnings has a large selection of tekton and usually decent pricing, if I wanted one I'd just head over to one and buy what you want.

LOL, What a Jag-off.
You mean it was clearly marked on the sockets, so say what, they were clearly marked, so like you had 2, 18 mm or whatever? That's hard to believe.
I sure would not have brought off him at all,
I hope you called corporate.

Yeah. He started to get more impatient with me before that. At that time I had all the tools I needed. Still bought some here and there but nothing like I use too. so any time he stopped it was more me getting tools replaced than buying new. Wasn't too long after me buying the tool set that he got replaced and we never seen another spapon truck. Matco guy loved us after all that.

Tekton seems to be pushing hard to become a major player in the hand tool world.
I like what I see from them.
been tempted to buy their polished combination wrenches.
I don`t need them LOL they sure look nice,
They have reps who often weigh in on forums like this.
I like their attitude.
I would give them a roll on a tool purchase.
Nice tools for the price.
BTW I don`t like 12pt sockets.

i have there new polished combination wrenches that come with the racks. got a crazy good deal on them and couldn't say no and they where new. i didnt need them either.

my other con is i was hoping they would been longer. there just a bit longer then CM RP up to a certain size but not longer by much. just enough to feel better in the hand is all.

i haven't put them thru there paces yet but have used them. since i have so many wrenches but hopeful soon ill give them a good break in lol

we had a XXXX driver like that one time. It was a tune up shop at the time,
we all had pretty well what we needed.
This driver started stopping by every week,
My chrome swivel spark plug came apart, and I lost the replaceable pin, and tried to get him to warranty/repair it.
he kept promising he would surly get the replacement pin.
Last time he came in, I said we didn't need anything, but did he get my Pin.
He goes, "What Pin" I sort of got pissed and raised my voice, and said Thee GD pin for my spark plug socket you have been promising me.
"Oh Yeah" "No not yet, but I will surely take care of that for you"
Come next week, he pulled up to the light out front, and just blew right past us.
never did come back.

back on topic,
Got my 3/8", 3 piece set of Tekton extensions today in the mail.
Have to say, I am pleased with them.
They have a nice knurl on them, like snap on, and all the chrome is nice, and they fit the ratchet well. Didn't try a socket yet, but I'm sure they will be fine. Only paid $11.** on e bay, free shipping.
The knurl on them kind O sold me on the Texton.
