Ya know how it seems like you can't turn a lap on an interstate without seeing some kind of outlet center? I haven't been to any since I saw the prices were less than outlet. But when I saw the sign that said two new tool shops had opened at one in Ohio, well, I had to mke an exception.

The first one I walked up was the Black and Decker store. Well, I admit to being a tool snob and not having a good opinion of B&D so when I combined that with seeing mostly kitchen products in the store, I walked past it to the other one. It was called Pro Tools and it was packed with DeWalt, Stanley and a few other brands. That was the good news.

I am not current with Dewalt prices so I went for the drill pack I listed this week on Hot Deal Index and What's Your Fave Drill Bit threads. In those threads, Lowes was selling the 14 pilot drill kit and flip container for $14.95. Here at the outlet (cough-MYASS!) store, they were only $26.95! WTF???

I guess I'm good for another 10 years before I set foot in a so-called outlet center. And I'll probably not wave as I go by, either...

I lucked out in one tool outlet a couple years ago. I'd been spinning bench grinders in stores for a while and hadn't found anything that looked right. They had a Ryobi 8" bench grinder and the wheels spun true:) A tad under $40 out the door:thumbup:

I had the exact same experience this summer. I think the outlet was in Gulfport, MS. Disapointing to say the least.

Since I've found HF, who needs 'em.

How true the wheels spin has to do with how they were mounted on the grinder. Usually, the display models are just slapped together. Any of them should spin nicely if you take the time to mount the wheels correctly.

I wasn't willing to take a chance on buying a grinder where the wheels had significant side to side wobble. Back and forth can be dressed out. I live out past BFE and was working on the road so returning something would range from a major PITA to impossible depending on where I bought it. The one I bought just sits there running and I haven't bolted it down. Takes over a minute to stop after the power is killed. Took me a while but I reckon I found a good 'un:)

Ha! Mac Tools is owned by stanley. So it's definately not wal-mart house brand.

Who cares what company owns them? Just because Stanley is owned by Mac doesn't mean Stanley tools are Mac quality. Especially when talking about Walmart, who makes manufacturers create products specifically for them to achieve a certain price point (i.e. of lesser quality).

You have it slightly backwards. Stanley owns MAC Tools. Ever since Stanley bought MAC, they have taken more of the MAC line offshore, IE, China.
The prices have stayed the same, or gone up, and the quality is going down. Just another example of a great brand gone bad under Stanley Tools.:shocking:

I was just at a B&D outlet this weekend. I overheard the sales guy telling someone else that Stanley has merged with Black and Decker. Any truth to this?

Hey JC, was that at Aurora Farms? If so, they have to mark everything up to cover their costs for being in the high rent district. Are you old enough to remember when that place was a two day a week flea market and auction when the Nero's owned it?

No, Chopper. It was the one on I-71 in Lodi, RT 83. You know, the one by the two biggie car dealerships that are now closed.

I stopped going to the outlet center in Aurora when I was shopping a set of Bose headphones for my kid and they were even higher than national retail. WTF??? I even asked them, "If this is an outlet store, why are the prices higher - especially WHEN IT'S YOUR STORE!" I DO remember when it was a flea market. It was one of the better ones.

I miss the one at the Memphis Drive-In. Is that still running? I heard they shut it down. It was neat cuz it ran both Sat and Sun.

Memphis closed down about 2/3 years ago when a land developer bought it for new homes - nothing's happened there yet. The fairgrounds in Berea has a flea market every Saturday and Sunday but I haven't been there yet.

Did you happen to notice that most of their machinery was 3 phase as well :headscrat. Who the hell shops for 3 phase machinery at an outlet mall? when I went in a few weeks ago I was really looking forward to checking out some of the new 12 volt porter cable stuff but it was no where to be found. So I settled for a couple of deeply discounted Asian made files.

i figured you were talking about the Lodi outlets. i've hit the B&D there for a couple inexpensive things that (luckily?) still work. this was before HF came to town.
