Hi, i search a lot on the forum but cant find anyone that have down a checkerboard floor with glazed black and white porcelain tiles. Right now, i have a vct floor but i dont want it again for some reason (tile where the tire sit have move, white tile stain really easily, alwasy need to wax to make it shine, doesnt really like tons of water, mark easily with jack stand, etc).

First, can someone point me out where to buy that kind of porcelain in canada?
Second, is there someone that have done this on the forum, or think about doing it?
Third, whats the durabillity of the shine/galzed finish of a porcelain tiles? A good idea in a garage or not? Someone tell me in the store that the finish will dull really fast in a garage. How hard is the glaze.

Heres a pics of what it would look :

I like the looks for the black tiles with white grout but in the garage, I have a feeling it would be ALL black in short order.

Many people here have done porcelain tiled garage floors with great success and I'm sure they will chime in once they see this thread. Here is an article about using porcelain tile for a garage that explains some of the things to look for.

I suggest doing a search on the forum for more information as well as online for the colors you want.

depends on the tile...tiles will have a friction rating on them wet/dry. Use of outdoor porcelain tiles is recommended since the garage floor will be wet on occasion.

I wanted pure white and black, but came to terms with what i wanted, what it would cost, durability, and price. I went with porcelain off white and dark brown. Its a garage in the end. Click links in signature to take a look.

hi Slick. Do you have a pics of your garage floor without car or much of that stuff. It look dirty as hell in the pics. And it look that your tile has no glaze at all?

I realise that ultra gloss porcelain tile may not be a good idea. It will probably scratch too easily.

I may end up with a light gray/ dark gray checkerboard. what do you guys think about it?

Yea click the renovation link. Towards the end i have pics without the cars. I have pics of it on my phone just need to upload them to picasa, they are resent after some hose and squeegee action.

I didnt do glazed because I knew i would destroy the glazing, at least that what i though. Not sure if it would chip anything as nothing has chipped to this day with porcelain. Also, I knew from the get go, that the floor would be dirty for longer periods of time than clean. This is my shop. I build custom cabinets in it, doors, stain and poly stuff. I also work on my cars, and never planned to more than sweep up every day.

During winter, I never clean it. Pull in with a snow dropping car, and the amount of **** on the floor is insane. I just hose it in the spring. And wash it maybe 2 more times before next winter season. It cleans up like the day it was installed after every winter. That is what i was after.

Ill get some recent pics. It will not be washed, lol.
