Hello Everyone, I thought I'd follow protocol and check in here before being a total stranger posting about.
A little about myself, I am a career fireman, before that I was an electrician for 14 years getting my license way back in 1998. As most firemen, I do have side businesses. Early spring through the Summers I own and run a small engine repair business out of my house/garage. In late summer through the winter I do remodeling of all types. I love mechanic-ing and building anything out of steel. Since 2008, when we bought our little piece of the country, I have dreamed of building a man's shop just like a lot of guys but haven't had the extra funds. So I have managed out of my garage for the last four years. Fortunately, I was blessed enough to buy a older custom home with a very oversized 28'x30' two car garage. I have many plans in mind for customizing my garage to my liking but have held off on the urge for most of it until I build my shop. With my wife an I both having jobs as civil servants so to speak (she being a high school teacher), our house hold doesn't have disposable income. Combine that with growing up less than wealthy, I have become resourceful and driven to build a lot of my own tools and projects from scratch. Anyway, enough rambling. I hope I can contribute as much here as I hope to learn. I'll leave you with a couple of random "shop" related pics.
This was my last project I started in my side driveway, all outside work, then was able to finish it up in my current set up. I regretfully sold it shortly after finishing it.
I built this 20ton press out of scrap I scrounged up from one of my previous employers. I took a couple of measurements from a press they had in their shop and took it from there.
I built two of these. One is a vise stand, the other is a grinder stand.
