I purchased this Chaney anvil & vise no. 40 last weekend. It is in working condition and seems to be complete. Looking for some information.

Nice that it still has the Hardy.

I have one that has been in my family for nearly 100 years. It isn't real sturdy, precise, or durable, but it has done a lot of work over the years. It has never been broken, but as far as I know, no one ever put a cheater pipe on the handle. I do know that it has taken a lot of pounding. Well-used but not abused.

That U-shaped piece on the front of the dynamic jaw is the way the jaw is pulled open by the screw. It is original. I can't tell for sure if the uneven surfaces and coloration on the front of the dynamic are damage or just rust.
