Anyone have a recomendation for wheels, or modifications for wheels on a cherry picker, i am getting ready to repair or change them out on my picker and stand.

seams like the picker is the hardest since it needs to be low profile, you cant just put a big heavy duty caster under it. thinking about modifying the leg for more clearance to fit more diameter. anyone di this?

hate trying to roll the thing with a 20K motor haning 5 feet in the air! and with my plans to epoxy the floor, may be even more of a problem.

i was pulling an engine out of a car, straight 6, and had one of the wheels explode(harbor freight cheap one). the engine flipped over and rolled the chain down to the floor, and luckily i reacted fast enough to push the engine and trans out in front of the car so it didnt smash the front end of the car. but it almost fell on my 60 year old dad. never again will i use cheap small caster wheels. find some good ones.

I have 3 engine stands and 2 cherry pickers. One stand has a 496 BBC and one has a 427 BBC. And I greatly overloaded the picker this weekend. I will only use steel wheels, have had composit wheels collapse under loads.

you can get the low profile casters that still have a heavy load capacity, thats one option...

some people put large wheels on the front where most the weight is and by making them non steerable you can keep it low there and still have casters in the back

I have seen people add like 1'' thick plate to the top of the extension tubes so it makes it like an unside down reciever hitch so they can put larger wheels and still keep it low

I have also seen people take the 2'' extension tubes and trim the end to about an inch thick and weld a plate to them and add some extra material on the sides to regain any lost strenth

I also saw where someone got some spare material and made a second set of inserts with HF trailer wheels to go on the back wheel locations and welded a hitch to the top so they can put those in when they want to tow the thing somehwere

anyone have a link to a low profile steel caster for the front?

even considering making a set on the lathe to replace the ones I have, somthing with a custome roller bearing that will roll easy. probably cost a fortune but I would like somthing that works.
