Chevron brand tools

I bought this tappet wrench labeled "Chevron". It's not marked "USA" and I can't find much about the company. Looked on Alloy Artifacts and here in Garage Journal without luck.

Currently on e-bay there is a Chevron 12mm black-oxide combo wrench (A-247) and a Chevron 3/4"-5/8" D.O.E. (A-167). Neither of those e-bay wrenches have a country of origin.
However, there is also a Chevron ratcheting box end 9/16"-1/2" (A-158) that says "Made in USA". (That wrench has patent 2,500,835 associated with A & E Manufacturing Company. A & E was a contract manufacturer of ratcheting wrenches for several major companies.)

Anyone know anything about this Chevron company? Is it the same as the oil/energy company? Were some of their tools not made in the USA?

Not as good as a Tiger in Your Tank, but there you are. Chevron gas and oils. I have a few tools marked Chevron, and they are clearly Proto made. I used to go to a swap that was really close to a Chevron refinery, so they would pop up every once in a while. I will see if I can dig them up.

I think your own thumbnail example locks down the maker. I see alot of these Proto made tools out here and the most common are Chevron and Firestone.

The older firestone wrenches I have don't look penens, but the postwar stuff definately does.

Yep, I used to haunt the flea market right by some of the refineries in Concord.

I still visit that one occasionally. The reason I suggested Barcalo is due to the - before and after the size markings and Thorsen because earlier wrenches never were marked with the Country of origin. The shape is pretty similar to either brand.

Thorsen started putting MFD in USA in '62 I believe, but I get your point.

Anyway, there used to be a short guy who sold there, had great stuff, but wanted top dollar for it. After that I started seeing him at the swap by OCO, and then he disappeared from that. I always thought I would see him in Stockton when I would head out that way, but no luck.

Just to clarify, these "Chevron" marked tools were NOT made for sale to the public, but rather they were tools made for Chevron employee workers; much like the Bell System marked tools?

Here is a Chevron ratchet wrench I found at a NV garage sale yesterday.
I agree with Leviton that Chevron marked tools were to be used by Chevron employees. There just aren’t that many of them out there.

^ @Oldtuleguy is now the owner of a "Union 76" branded "Republic" socket set, so "Chevron" tools comes as no surprise.
I agree with Don - that tappet wrench does look somewhat "Thorsen-ish".

A&E Lang stamped out those ratcheting box-end wrenches for everybody. I have seen them on ebay with all kinds of different company names on them - including but not limited to names of electrical contractors and heating and air conditioning installation/repair companies.

I have a couple of those. Most tools marked Japan, one breaker usa, all marked republic.

Since I have a few Chevron marked tools, this pair of Chevron marked two position battery pliers caught my eye on eBay. I must have been the only interested buyer since they weren’t expensive.

I have a few chevron marked items made by proto. Screw drivers, wrenches and some sockets. I even got a few of them from BMWRD0

There is a major Chevron refinery in Richmond and that is why so many are found around here. Bmwrd0 used to frequent the Concord flea and found quite a few there. I went to a sale once in Pinole and found three pairs of Channellocks with Chevron markings.
