1998 Chevy K1500 bedside replacement
Bought this 98 knowing the bedsides were shot and filled with bondo but decided to take on the project to replace them, but I’m curious as to what’s the best way to do it? Tried looking for a new box but no luck. Full panel? Quarter panel? This is my first project so any help is appreciated
(passenger side damage way worse than driver)

I think really the full panel will be easier. What are you going to do with the truck? another option would be a flatbed replacement.

Although some folks on this forum do this in their garage, you will probably find more information on other websites. Ultimately, you're talking about the art of welding in replacement panels. If you are ready to be patient and learn....

Bed sides are like 500 a side I think. Maybe more now. Those would be a big job but less body work to look good. Patch panels are cheaper. Easy to put in if you have a welder. If not you can glue them on. More body work to make look right and last.

Lots of YouTube flicks on bedside repair.

Best thing to do is search out a bed from the southwest.

I have patched a few with new wheel arches, and it lasts a few years, but typically the support rails and inner wheel wells, as well as the floors aren’t far behind. I’ve done three Fords, a Chevy, and a Ram.

I picked up an MDOT takeoff bed for a Super Duty on a state auction, but there’s always a few people on Craigslist advertising southern beds. Larger swap meets like Jefferson and Iola always have vendors with many assorted beds.

Having said that, your bed doesn’t look bad by local standards.

USCARRY45 has the right idea. A new flat bed. I replaced the bed on my 2004 Super duty I bought new. Drove 400 miles to get it. And now its ready for another one. A flat bed would have been cheaper in the long run.
