Chevy oil pressure sending unit?

My father has a 1990 Chevy truck with a 350 that has recently developed a pretty bad oil leak. I asked some Chevy guys and they told me that it's most likely the oil pressure sending unit, apparently these are notorious for that problem, I wouldn't know, being a Ford guy.

I was also told that removing the sending unit requires a special tool. Or at least that the special tool makes the job easier. Is that true? What does the tool look like?

You need the second one and its probably the oil filter adapter o-ring and gasket if it is leeaking under pressure.

does your truck have engine oil cooler lines?
where is the leak coming from?
oil pressure sensors have been known to leak but
that would be a rare leak though
what about old and crusty valve cover gaskets?

Yea that one *****, socket won't go on it. I cut an adjustable wrench down short to get those.

if you need one of the sockets, Advance sells cheapies that will do just as good for a 1/10th the price.

It's a goofy looking 1" or 1-1/16" socket - SK #4488 covers most of those type senders and switches (both sizes in one), and has a shorter profile than most.

I think I paid $12 for mine, and it's been worth it's weight in gold over the years.

i would suggest that you clean the engine and verify where the leak is coming from before you start wasteing money on tools and parts that you don't need.

x2- Ive replaced my fair share of rear main seals, oil cooler lines and housings, senders, and pan gaskets.

Start with a few cans of degreaser,

I'm going to X3 this, at 21 years old anything could be leaking. Simple green is a great cleaner too and there is plenty of room to look around to see what the actual issue is.
