This is my first post here this site is awesome.

Last year around this time I finally scrapped the funds together to build my dream garage. I live in the city so space is not plentiful so I had to stick with a 22x22 gambrel layout. It's still a work in progress but I figured I'd share with everyone my progress. Hope you enjoy, I'll add as I finish more things. Welcome to the forum! Great looking garage and pool!

Hydrant on the pool deck is a novel idea.

CFD = Chicago Fire Dept???

Hey neighbor, Welcome to the GJ from a former Hegewisch resident.
Father was an Engineer on the fireboat in Cal harbor and Uncle was at Engine 99.
Nice garage...love the additional attic space!
So, what nice ride goes inside?

Don't see many Chicago city builds! I'm out in the burbs and look forward to watching this one.

Like others ask ... What's in the garage and what are you planning on using your garage for?

Pic#3 ... Marking your street winter parking already? :)

Welcome.

Looks Fantastic!
Love that Style, and its great for the extra Space upstairs.
My Grandparents lived off of Irving Park Road and Richmond (near California) and I was always amazed how they pulled in and and out of their Alleyway Small Garage without damage.
Having the Garage door on both ends is Great...I see more and more doing it that way now.

The CFD does indeed stand for Chicago Fire Dept. Honestly the cars are outside most of the time unless there is some inclement weather. The two doors are great especially for entertaining. I do a lot of work on my house and now garage so that's what the lower level of the garage is for not to mention the hobbies and car repairs. The upstairs will be your "Man Cave II" lol. It's all insulated now and getting ready for drywall. Heater will be going in too. I can see this forum is gonna get me in trouble lol.

I LOVE gambrel roofs. You don't see too many with knee walls for support, but it makes the rafter design much simpler. How tall are those knee walls ?

Welcome from the South Suburbs. Nice project, and thanks for your service with the CFD. I think all fire fighters should get paid double, but then I'm not Rahm.

OP . . . looks like you tore down previous garage to build that one . . right ??

Why couldn't you have re-used the side walls of previous ??

+1 LOVE the massive space in attic with Gambrel roof. Is the stairway just 32" wide?? How will you get larger items upstairs ??

I'd sure want large clamshell doors to attic that opened to alley.

Keep pics coming of insulation and heat setup. GJer's love pics & builds !!

The walls of my old garage had 2x4 24 on center and some damage from previous owner. It needed to go.

They (knee walls) are 63" from floor to bottom of rafter.
Are you planing on finishing the attic ? Make sure leave an opening through the knee wall for storage behind ! Personally, I would cut out one of those knee wall studs, make a header out of some 2x4s and add some jack studs to get a bigger door into that storage area.

I'm working on finishing both levels. I'm opening up for storage doors on both knee walls. It's a work in progress.

That is so weird. I am in a military unit with another CFD guy and I thought this was his build. He did his garage in 2011 after our deployment.

This build looks good. I hope to do my addition to my garage similar to the way you did the roof.
