I was going to buy a polar air unit but a local shop got a scratch and dent of Chicago pneumatic compressors. I was just over and looked at this Chicago pneumatic compressor. I can't find hardly anything about them. This is a 2 cylinder 7.5hp 80 gallon compressor. It has what I'm assuming is a Chinese pump and a baldor motor and eaton controls. The shop said cause its scratch and dent that it don't have manufacturers warranty but he will honor it through his company. I know the guy so I'm not concerned about it. I can have the unit for 1400 including the rubber pads and a better drain for the bottom.

So any feedback is appreciated. I'm concerned about the 2 cylinder compressor pumping air. Am I going to spend a lot of time waiting on it when I'm running the big impacts or any air tools around my shop. I'm the only one that will be in the shop and that won't be constant 7 days a week. I just don't want to under estimate and get something to small.

That pump looks a lot like the clone Saylor Beall 705 but with a revised (smaller) centrifugal unloader. The clone 705 is a very popular pump and I see on work trucks more and more these days instead of the Champion R15 units.

impact tool does not require much air. If this is a mechanic shop, it will work out well.

If you work there by yourself, you can get away with a 60gal 5HP setup with those type of pump rating, even if you use air sander, saw, or grinder.

That's a good machine with a cast iron pump. They are assembled in Rock Hill, SC and that is a Chinese pump, but outside of a couple manufacturers, cast iron pumps are going to come from China.

Looks like a nice unit. Depending on how much it is vs. a new one, I'd jump on it if it were enough off.

My seller is at 1400 vs new for 2100. He throwing in the rubber pads and changing the drain to a ball valve. I'll probably add an electric drain though.

Like I said, I just don't want to under power my shop with air and have to spend time waiting on it to build back up cause it builds slow because its only 2 cylinders.

The pump is probably running at its top power and speed rating at 7.5HP.

A 4 cyl V pump at 7.5HP would likely produce an additional 20% more air over the 2 cyl.

Because impacts are used in short bursts even a small 2HP compressor is normally sufficient. For sanding or painting the 7.5HP you're looking at is enough. You should be fine on air tools unless you intend to run "air hogs" - powerful 0.5-1.0HP die grinders, drills, or angle grinders for long periods of time and if you're going that way then you'd likely need a 10HP compressor.

This pump turns 800 RPM at 7.5HP, not crazy fast at all. Model RCP-7581VSC2 uses the 10HP pump running at 600 RPM and very quiet.

Every site I saw showed the RPM at 900 RPM which isn't terrible but this is probably a 5, 7.5HP pump. The 4 cylinder pumps at 7.5 HP would tend to run lower RPM and also be used at the 10 HP level.

The RCP-C7581VS turns 900...my error, the big 4 cylinder one is actually model RCP-C7581VSC2, forgot the second C.

Sorry for the misinformation
