Any of the Vise experts here know who actually manufactured the Chief bench vises, specifically the 4" L4 model below ?

Looking at restoring a small USA bench vise and really want to know the History of what foundry it was made at. Seems the similar Scout 4" was Wilton from what I can gather......thanks guys, Slydog

looks like some of the Columbians I think? Columbian may have made that same vise with many different names cast in it...

Tjc, do you know where Chief was based out of in the USA ?

I can't seem to find much of anything about Chief, but they appear well made vises. Just want to find some History on Chief and what Foundry it might of been cast at...........Thanks for the info guys, Slydog

Tjc, appreciate the info.

I am kinda thinking Columbian might of cast it for them since they were out of Cleavland, Ohio and it looks similar to a Columbian vise.

Thanks again, Slydog

Your vise was made by Littlestown Hardware & Foundry. They were made for many retailers like the old S & H stamps company who would add there own name to it.
They were made in the 1960's & 1970's. Hope this helps.

On Ebay, I have seen vises with the Chief logo on on one side & Columbian USA lettering on the other side. I have also seen Chief vises without Columbian on the other side. Maybe multiple manufacturers made Chief vises. -Joe
