I searched, but I didn't find anything, I Googled, again, nothing. I have a three car tandem garage. I have turned the tandem space into a "workshop" area. The kids, 3 as of last Thursday(!), want to spend time out there with me, but we live on a fairly busy street (traffic is faster than it is heavy, but you get the point).

Years ago, I saw what looked like a baby gate or pet gate that spanned the length of the open garage door. This allowed in the light and fresh air, but kept the kids and/or crazy dog from bolting into the street. Do any of you know where I can find such a thing? The span of my garage (stucco facia to stucco facia) is about 190", so I'd have to hook together quite a few standard baby gates.

I know, I know, "just watch the kids", but you know how it is. You get engrossed in something and they're gone in seconds.

Or look into the secutity gates.
They are most often horizonal expandiing, accordion style.
They let in lots of light and air, but keep people out (or in).

we use this in our house and i think it would be great for the garage http://www.totsafe.com/proddetail.asp?prod=7160. we have two of them put together and it runs from one side of the living room to the other. this keeps the kids from the tv/stereo equipment and the basement stairs. we have two gates to allow access. the gates would me nice for the garage to enter and exit easily.

I recommended a hidden pet fence and three collars ( in my case I only would only need 2 collars and the optional belt transmitter!!), but so far I'm the only one around here that thinks it's a good idea!!

I would think you could build something fairly easily... Maybe a 3' high barrier out of 2x4s with screen attached. It could be hinged in 2-3 places to fold out of the way and use fence hardware to lock in place. With some imagination I bet you could build a nice custom unit.

We liked this plastic version better. You can arrange it anyway you want....it's plastic and easy to clean...no limit on how many sections you can string together.....

BTW....congrats on the addition.....and....getting 'fixed' does not hurt as much as some guys say......does wonders for the *** life....

This works great. It can be straightened out to about 12 feet long. With just a little work it can be secured to walls making a nice temporary fence.

I actually have leashes for two of my kids. Some people freak, some people wanna know where I got 'em (no, not the kids). Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it. And DDAWG, "fixed" I shall be on Friday the 13th(!!). Guess who made that appointment??

Just do what I did add a TV and PS2 you can be out their for days and the kids won't move from the TV

We live on a busy street as well. I scored a used tennis net. Dropped two stakes on each side of the driveway and set the net up. Kept the kids on the driveway and stopped balls from rolling into the street. End of day just roll it back up

Keep in mind that if the kids are in your garage workshop and small enough so that a child barrier would do anything, the passing cars may be the least of your concerns. There is no need for a barrier, because you must watch your kids 100% of the time when they are in the garage. While you may think it's nice that they want to hang out with Daddy, a garage workshop is the exact oposite of a "child safe" environment. If you think you can crawl under your car while they sit there watching (with no other adult supervision), think again. Little kids get into everything. Just think of the chemicals on hand in a typical garage. And no, just because your Snap-on box has "lock-n-roll" drawers, that does not make your garage kid safe.
